Tobacco is dangerous when smoked, chewed, or sniffed. It is the highest preventable leading cause of death within the United States. Tobacco is commonly found in cigarettes containing around "600 ingredients and 7000 chemicals when burned (American Lung Association)". They also come in smokeless tobacco such as dip containing over 2000 chemicals. Most of the chemicals in both tobacco products are poisonous to your body.

Tobacco has nicotine in it causing the user to become addicted to it. Once someone begins using tobacco, they will begin feeling an uncontrollable craving for it. This will start to show in their daily life. The user can no longer think clearly without tobacco and feels as if something is always missing when not consuming nicotine. The withdrawal effects are depression, sleepless nights, anxiety, and moodiness.

Before one decides to smoke, dip, or sniff, they must consider the risk factors. All tobacco products contain dangerous chemicals to keep you addicted such as tar and arsenic. Those who smoke will develop weaker red blood cells, increase in heartbeats, elevated blood pressure, yellow eyes and fingers, paralyzed cilia, and chronic bronchitis. Taking in tobacco will also cause many types of cancers. Lung cancer, cancer of the larynx, mouth cancer, esophageal cancer, and kidney cancer have been found connected with smokers more than healthy non-smokers. Once addicted, it can be hard to quit and may cause withdrawals.

Why Teens may smoke

The most obvious reason why teens may smoke is because of peer pressure. Their friends may encourage them to try smoking or they want to do the same thing they see others doing. If the teen's parents are smokers, that could also play a huge role. The teen wants to do the same thing as their parents are doing and may see it as maturity or natural. If the parent smoked while pregnant, the child may already be addicted to nicotine before even having their first cigarette. The last reason why a teen might smoke is because of stress. Tobacco is a drug that gives the smoker a short term sense of relaxation. If the teen is facing financial, school, or family problems, they might have wanted to try a cigarette to help with their stress and got hooked ever since.

Although quitting smoking may be difficult, it is possible. Always talk to a healthcare professional about how to quit smoking. They will prescribe medication or counseling based on how bad the addiction is. Discuss the smoking problem with someone trustworthy and have them make sure you don't go back. 'Medicalnewstoday' claims that drinking plenty of fluids, having a diet rich in antioxidants, and getting plenty of exercises is needed to help clear some of the nicotine in your body.
