"some of these immigrants may be undocumented and therefore wary of involvement with public agencies and programs," pg 4. This is becoming more apparent for my team as we collect proof of income from families. This year we have had several with their paystubs in another name. This could open the door to conversations. https://padlet.com/caldwell9/fv2wwhy0ok0i/wish/353115018 2019-04-22 16:57:11 UTC https://padlet.com/caldwell9/fv2wwhy0ok0i/wish/353115018 Reading "The Black Family" article, I connected with the statement "it is critical to approach families without judgement--and without extensive forms for them to complete ..." because this so closely connects to our project of trying to create a strengths-based and more family-friendly intake process. https://padlet.com/caldwell9/fv2wwhy0ok0i/wish/353171689 Beth]]> 2019-04-22 20:05:56 UTC https://padlet.com/caldwell9/fv2wwhy0ok0i/wish/353171689 Teachers vs parent liaisons karin_delapaz https://padlet.com/caldwell9/fv2wwhy0ok0i/wish/353193992 "The Black Family" mentioned that  teachers will often "outsource" family situations to parent liaisons.  I have noticed this happens frequently with our black families, and then they are referred to a black parent liaison.  As the article states, that it is important that teachers accept their role as the "primary mediator of family engagement" and find ways to use the parent liaisons.  In the Expansion Grant program, we are still looking to find the right balance between the role of the teacher and the parent liaison in the communications and how that relationship works.
