First of all I want to say that being homophobic is really uncool and no one deserves to being treated like a fool or like not "normal", because what is normal and what is not normal ?
Please treat people the same way you want to be treated.
Always think about that "Love is love" and love is of course bigger than hate and also cooler. Hate is absolutely intolerant - think of that !
I have a few homosexual and bisexual friends and they are all really nice people and they deserve to being loved, like every other human being in the world. In my opinion being homophobic is one of the worst character traits a human being can have. You are not cool when you insult someone as "gay" but you are an intolerant person of course.
Love should be the real power of the world, nothing else.

The history of muslim countries and their rejection to homosexual people

The history of homosexual people in muslim countries or generally in the islamic world is really interesting !
The muslim people were more than 1000 years tolerant with homosexual muslims and especially during the 8th - 18th century the muslim countries were the ones who accepted homosexuals the most.
Only with entry into the christian, prudish countries in the course of colonization in the 19th century began the rejection of homosexuals.
A lot of people say that the holy quran prohibits homosexuality - but that´s not true !
It´s just a superstition that homosexuality is forbidden.
In the muslim history you can also find a lot of romantic storys about homosexual men and their relationship to eachother.
The story about "Lot" (you can find it in the bible and the quran) says that homosexuality is not forbidden but when you don´t have sex with the same gender you safeguard your purity. To summarize it, homosexuality is not forbidden but
many muslims in the history of "Lot" read a strict ban on homosexuality. This is not right because the story just points out that your purity is lost, but it has never been presented as a general ban. Many muslims read it as forbidding and spreading this superstition that it is forbidden.

(On this picture you see four muslim men, this picture shows their relationship to each other and that homosexuality is absolutely normal in the islamic world)

The reasosns why they are discriminated are diverse.
As we learned before, a lot of muslims reject homosexuality just because they interpret a story in the quran not correct.
There are a lot of other reasons why they don´t accept homosexual people, I will show you now some of them:

- in a lot of muslim countries they say sex between the same gender is illegal, because you lost your purity
- the ignorant people see homosexuality as a sin
- they think that the homosexuals bring shame to their families
- they see homosexuality as fornication and perversion
- the quran doesn´t prohibits homosexuality, but there is a part that says fornication is bad (but not forbidden)
- another reason is that a lot of people say that homosexuality is a illness and the people must be healed

The only solution to fight against these discrimination is to enlighten the people and help them to understand the history.

Nowadays in a lot of muslim countries it´s still a big problem when you´re homosexual...
The muslim Imam Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed is a good role model for a lot of homosexual muslims. In 2012 he opened the first LGBTQ mosque in Paris/France and he also urges a human, liberal islam, who accept all people.
Nowadays there are also a few islamic minority groups and they say that homosexuality isn´t illegal - but that´s a minority and they are also suppressed by the society . There are also a few islamic countries who don´t forbidden sexual acts between homosexual people for example: Albania, Bosnia, Iraq, Kosovo or Mali and the Turkey. The Damaskus have special places for homosexual people were they can go to and are accepted and not being discriminated by the society.
There are also a lot of intolerant countries who don´t accept homosexual people because in their opinion god doesn´t want homosexual people or it´s fornication or a sin.
When you´re homosexual in a muslim country and they see you with your girl or boyfriend the consequences are really horrible. Here are some examples:
- you go to prison in Afghanistan, Egypt, Gambia, Guinea, Katar, Libya, Oman, Pakistan and Tunisia
- you will be murdered in Iran, Nigeria, Mauritania, Sudan, Jemen, Saudi-Arabia, and the Arab Emirates
- in the Iran the bodies of the people hang on cranes, in Saudi Arabia the people are beheaded and in Syria they throw the people from buildings...
The bad thing is the perpetrators are often not fined because they keep the country "clean".

To summarize my blog, a lot of people still think that the holy quran doesn´t allow homosexual relationships but that´s not true !
A lot of countries have strict laws for homosexual people but there are also a few countries who do a little bit for homosexual people like the Damaskus and a few countries also accept homosexual relationships like the Turkey. The truth is still that people were discriminated because they love the same gender and that´s a point we should change and help the people like the Imam Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed. There are also a lot of countries who kill the people just because they love the same gender that´s horrible and disgusting. In my opinion if you see people discriminate other people because they are homosexual you should definitely help them and fight against these discrimination - we are all human beings and no one deserves to being discriminated !

I already had some knowledge on homosexual people in Muslim countries and I agree with your blog.I myself, cannot understand why homosexual people are treated the way they are in Muslim countries. I understand that everyone has their believes, but believing in something does not give them the right to discriminate other people. Especially not for their sexual orientation. I could not agree more with what you said because literally “hunting people down” because of their sexuality is not an option, ever. The topic you chose really affects me emotionally since I feel for these people. Thank you for writing such a great article about it. *extra credit for the rainbow 🏳️‍🌈*
Best wishes,
Isabelle

Instead of knowing that for 1000 years they were tolerant with this topic. It is sad to push the hate against this people on a religion. Loving someone with the same sex is not wrong. I also dont understand why someone ist murderd, imprisoned or hanged for something that doesnt harm to anyone. All in all I think no one lost his purity, brings shame to theire familiys or is ill when he loves the same sex.

thank your for writing this blog. It was really informative and you made some really good points.
First of all I want to tell you that you have a great point of view. I couldn´t agree more with your opinion that love is love and that we should fight against any discrimination. Watching Imam talking about his project and his feelings towards the discrimination made me think about the topic even more. I can imagine that he is probably a great role model for many others. Furthermore I think it is interesting how the view on homosexuality changed in Muslim countries. That´s also shocking at the same time.
In my opinion it is sad to see that some people make wrong statements to justify their hate against homosexual people. This has horrible consequences.
The fact that some people view homosexuality as an illness makes me really angry and shows that there are still a lot of humans in need to be enlighten. In addition to that the video of the discussion fitted well into your blog.
Even though I already had knowledge about the topic I enjoyed reading your blog because you mentioned new aspects and chose great photo and video material. I loved that you chose postitive photos as well.
All in all, your blog was well-structured and easy to understand. I really liked the design as well.

Dear Kimberlie,
First I wanted to say that I really love your topic. It was very interesting to read. I already knew something about the homosexual people in Muslim countries and I‘m very shocked about the todays situation.
From my point of view I think that everybody should have the right to love the person that he or she wants to love!! No matter if its the same gender or not. Another point which shocked me was the map where we could see where in the world homosexuality is illegal. To use the word illegal is so stupid, how can be love stamped as illegal, I just can‘t understand it. The fact that someone should die because of their sexuality is just very tragic and horrible.
All in all, your blog was very nice to read and interesting.

Best regards
Anna

I think you chose a very interesting topic.
For someone like me who was born and raised in a western society where homosexuality is far more accepted than in most parts of the world, it was very shocking to get to know that some muslim countries are giving people the death penalty for being homosexual.

The fact that homosexuality was widely tolerated in muslim countries for more than 1000 years and that homosexuality is now looked down on because of a false interpreted part of the quran makes this perception of homosexuality even more incomprehensible.
I didn't know any of this information before reading your blog, so you gave me a lot of new insights into the topic!

Finally, i think your blog is beautifully designed and well structured.

Best regards,

Laura
