What did you think of Ratliff's book?

I found Ratliff's book to be quite eye opening. While reading this book it was obvious that Ratliff knows what he is talking and has a strong musical background. I think that more music students and non music students should read his book because it really opens up a new perspective when it comes to listening and enjoying music.

What were your favorite aspects?

One of my favorite aspects of this book is how he can take classic songs that we have heard and fell in love with but make them even better and more interesting. I like how he can make this book treatable to everyone with many different backgrounds as well.

What did you find problematic?

One thing I found might be problematic was some of the vocabulary or sayings that he used. If you know a little about musical terms you will understand his many uses of them, however not everyone has experience with those words. Also some of his sayings may not register with all people and might be hard to grasp.

How has it changed how you listen to music

Reading this book has changed the way I listen to music by giving me new ways to hear it and different things to listen for in music. For example I can now understand the different elements and train my ears to listen for them.
