Famous Graphic Design Research Project

My famous graphic designer was Paula Scher. Something I learned about graphic design is how to make lines out of rectangles. I learned how to change the hue/saturation on pictures. I got frustrated with moving the text boxes around, but I think I got the hang of it. I have a neutral feeling about Paula Scher’s work. I like some of it, but some of it is really just typography, and that is not really my thing.

Pattern Making

Making patterns was easy with explanation. I had fun making the patterns and I think it is very interesting the way the patterns are made from just letters. Something I struggled with was copying my patterns, as sometimes what I copied would appear somewhere else. I am interested in what we will use this skill for in the future of this class. I think I will get better at photoshop with time.

Donut Design

I had an easier time with this project than others we have done. My favorite donut that I made was the donut named “Wonderland”. I think that the colors go together nicely and the drawing I had to do looks fairly good. My least favorite donut that I did was my one called “Butterfly Sky”. It is my least favorite because the butterflies do not look very good because they were hard to do. I learned how to insert shapes during this product. Shapes I inserted were the flowers and the boat. The inspiration for my donuts came from Taylor Swift albums.

Logo Parody

This project took me a long time and was very hard for me. Trying to shape the letters was very difficult for me. I was able to do it a little bit faster as I went on, but not as much as other projects. The easiest for me to do was the Target one because the circles were easy to do because of our last project. I think the name is funny because it reminds me of my mom. I think the Airbnb one looks the best.

Logos

My favorite logo that I created is either the third or fifth one. I think the fifth one should be chosen because it follows the prompt the best. I can easily see this logo on a t-shirt. The logo shows fast movement, exerting a fast quality. It has a sporty vibe, without directly showing that it is a sports logo. This gives room for opportunities in product variety.

Study of Fliers

I believe that the second flier I made is the flier that should be chosen to hang around the building. It is the most appealing to high school students, as it is modern while still being colorful and inviting. It showcases the information of Art Club and when and where it meets. The flier also shows the creativity of Art Club. I feel like my flier shows the vibrance of Art Club while being inviting to people in the hallway so they will read it and be interested in the club.

I REALLY LIKED THIS PROJECT. THE PROJECT DID TAKE ME A LONG TIME, BUT I STILL HAD FUN WITH IT. I LEARNED TO WORK THE OPACITY OF THE BRUSH TOOL AND THE DIFFERENT SIZES. I ALSO LEARNED HOW TO GET DIFFERENT BRUSHED THAT USED DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES. I LOVE HALLOWEEN AND MUSIC ARTISTS SO THIS WAS A REALLY FUN PROJECT FOR ME. MY FAVORITE PHOTO THAT I EDITED FOR THIS PROJECT WOULD HAVE TO BE EITHER MY PHOTO OF GRACIE ABRAMS OR TAYLOR SWIFT.

I liked this project because it gave me freedom, while staying within our client's guidelines. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that my logo was the one chosen by Ms. Kernes, our client.

Famous Art Parodies

I had a lot of trouble with the first one I made, which was the Marie Antoinette painting, but once I learned the stamp tool it was much easier. Something that I think made this project hard was that it wasn’t photoshopping faces onto real pictures, but paintings. I feel as if it was hard to get the texture to look right. My favorite was the Napoleon one because I think it fits very well, but I also think that the Mona Lisa one with Mr.Mckinney was iconic.

Movie Poster Parodies

This project went well for me, but it took me a long time because photoshop was being really laggy on Thursday. I also missed the longer time on Wednesday. My strengths were cutting out objects because I have had a lot of practice doing that. My weaknesses were trying to do all of the typography and accommodate to photoshop lagging. If I were to redo this project, I would pick movie posters that are more exciting and have less words.

Graduation Ticket Design

This project was a little frustrating trying to get all of the text to be appropriate size and color without being hard to read. I am pretty impartial to my final design as I do not hate it, but I do not love it. I probably would've chosen a different background if I were to do this again.

Food Truck Logo

I liked this project because it was straightforward while allowing creative-freedom for all members of the group. Something I didn’t like about this project, however, was the template for the food truck because it wouldn’t work allow me to do a lot of things because it was so small and not all of the borders were complete. I feel like all of the group members put in equal work as we all submitted designs and they didn’t look quickly put together. All of our designs fit our theme we were given. I liked making the menu the most because it was the most fun.

DIY WEEK

I did not have a favorite skill this week as they were all pretty frustrating and difficult for me. The least hard step was the photo manipulation because it was quick when I was able to figure it out. I found the double exposure skill the hardest. I liked the last DIY week, but not this one, so I am unsure if I would like more in the future. The image I decided to showcase in my portfolio is very inspirational to me.

Reflection

My favorite projects in this class were the ones we had the most freedom. For example, the movie poster project and logo project. The class got easier as I learned more about photoshop, but was still challenging. This class, besides when I was really confused, was relaxing for me. I am looking forward to next semester, as I will be in Graphic Design II.
