There are three species of thresher sharks the pelagic thresher  the big eye thresher and the common thresher there could be a fourth but scientists are unsure. Thresher sharks live about 500 meters  under water near coastal waters. Threshers have an extremely long tail with the length 6 meters their tail can weigh up to 767 pounds. They use their tail to whip their  prey that can either stun their prey or kill it. Thresher sharks live for 45 to 50 years. A thresher usually eats sardines. Threshers hunt alone even the pups of the shark hunt alone. The longest thresher ever caught was 20 ft  and weighed 216 pounds. There is only one attack ever from a thresher the diver was struck by its tail. One of the biggest threats to threshers is catching them for sport. Juvenile threshers predators are other lager species of shark but adult  threshers have no known predator. Threshers have weak jaws with about 80 teeth. Thresher sharks are able  to change there body heat and go in waters were other sharks can’t.97% of a thresher sharks diet is bony fish. Thresher sharks have been caught and sold in the united states since 2000. These sharks mature very very slowly and have fewer offspring. They reach maturity  between 8 and 13 years old. Interesting fact the thresher sharks scientific name is alopias vulpinus.
