Where does that actually come from? Image of William Webb Ellis at Rugby School (Public Domain – wiki) The title of this post says it all: rugby gets its name from an English boarding school. More specifically, it is the Rugby School in the town of Rugby (county of Warwickshire).

The players may run with the ball in their hands. Feint moves and speed are your weapons.
The ball may only be thrown backwards. The oval shape requires the right passing technique.
The player with the ball may be tackled. This is only allowed with the arms, by the way.
Minor offenses such as dropping the ball or passing forward will be penalized with a SCRUM. In the scrum, the 8 forwards are in a certain formation. The two groups of 8 forwards compete for the ball to be thrown in the center of the scrum.
If the ball goes out, a lineout is formed. The ball is thrown in the middle between two rows of players.
Serious offenses such as talking to the referee or offside are punished with a penalty (penalty kick). In the event of a penalty, the opponent must move back 10 meters. But if you are near the poles, you can also shoot at the poles. That gives you 3 points.
Offside: If you stay behind the ball, you are generally not offside.
You don't just make contact at the tackle; you can also make contact with a MAUL. You bump into a player and twist your body. You are waiting for help from a buddy when the opponent grabs you. Sometimes you get a tangle of players pushing and pulling to get the ball. If the ball hits the ground in the same situation, it's called a RUCK.
You may kick the ball. Sometimes that comes in handy when you're on the defensive. But of course it usually leads to loss of the ball.
Treat the opponent and the referee with respect.

According to a well-known legend, rugby started in 1823 when William Webb Ellis, a pupil at Rugby School in England, picked up the ball during a match and ran across the field with it. Research has shown that this is unlikely to be a historical fact, but Webb Ellis is still revered at his school and the cup presented to the world champion is called the Webb Ellis Cup.
