The American Dream is a dream of which you live in a country where you are free to live as you please, a dream where you are free to pursue the career, livelihood and experiences that you want too. Since many do not have the freedoms we tho, many foreigners developed the idea of coming here as somewhat of a dream come true, a safe haven if you will. There are many examples such as Africans fleeing from the Sudan civil war and seeking refuge here. Or like the Movie " Coming to America" a wealthy African prince came to America and automatically fell in love with American/New York culture to which he didn't really wanna go back home.

On TV shows there will always be a character whom isn't from America but will feel that America is the place for them to be because of the fact that they think that all their dreams could come true. In the real world coming to America good be a struggle for others since it isn't that easy to be able to get what you want.

The American dream is the idea that America has a good life to offer to anybody that isn't from there. It's a narrative that is presented to people around the world, ones that encourage people to believe that everybody in America is bound to find work and be successful. Hill references that dream when she describes immigration surplus. More workers, more demand, more jobs. An example of the American dream can be the Mariel boatlift, where immigrants successfully found work and provided a powerful outcome for America.

According to the Crash Course, many people that migrate to the United States come seeking economic opportunity and a way to escape their suppressing lives and restart. The "American Dream" gives people hope of bettering their circumstances and restarting to become better tenfold. The American dream promises wealth and stability, which most people don't have access to in third-world countries.

The American Dream to most people is where you improve your current life from your past life. Either becoming stable, living in a good house, taking better care of your family, and most importantly, living freely. Mainly to get better opportunities of a better wage and live a better life. For example, from the Crash Course Video, it's stated that immigrants can increase their wages from "$9,800 to $19,000 (around there)". This amount of improvement in people's lives will further develop their idea of the American dream and how successful they can become. Mass amounts of people from Europe came to America for a better life, to be specific around "17 million Europeans" came from Europe to the U.S. in order to pursue careers and jobs. An example from my actual life is that my mom and dad are both immigrants and came from the Dominican Republic who came to the U.S. in the 80s-90s. They came here with a vision of having a family that can live a better life than they have. People believe that America is the land of opportunity and this is proven by my parents because they used to live in camps but now we live in decent houses and apartments which is a huge improvement.

The American dream is based around the idea that if you move to America, over time, your life conditions will improve. In my family, the American dream occurred over three generations. My maternal grandmother moved from the D.R. to NYC in the 1960s. When my mom was born, she was in a better situation than my grandma at childhood, and over time, my mom was able to help the family climb the social ladder. Because of this, when I was born, I was in a far better position than both my mother and grandmother. Over three generations, we managed to obtain a better life economically and socially like Hill said in the video.

For example many people living in poverty in South America this motivates them to make the long and dangerous journey to America in hope of better life and have better opportunities. This often causes large amounts of immigrants seeking asylum in hope to provide a better future for themselves and their family. Javier

The American Dream is a suburban life with a nuclear family and usually a dog. The family has its own house with a fence and a car. This idea was one used by my maternal and fraternal grandparents. My maternal grandparents moved to the US from Bengal and bought a house in the suburbs as well as a car. My fraternal grandparents moved from Brooklyn to Long Island looking to escape the city and live what they viewed as the American Dream.

Many immigrants move here just to have an opportunity for themselves and their family. They search for a job or a safer environment which they can find both here in America.

You often hear that the “American dream” is to live freely and to have fair chances and equal rights. Of course this isn’t fact. Those who come to America are looking for safety and freedom. In some ways America offers that, there is freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to assemble etc, but this truth is not the same truth for all. We are supposed to treat each other as equals here but we often do not. If you are a person of color you’ll find that these very laws that shape our country sometimes barely apply to us. In Hill’s video she’s arguing why immigration is beneficial for our economy referring to the debate going on our country if they should be allowed in or not. Hill argues that immigration surplus may drop wages short term but in long term increases our wages. So although some government officials want to keep people out, those seeking freedom and safety these people could bring benefits to us. But we must remember that they’re more than money makers they are people and they deserve an escape.

The "American Dream" is a life that is unachievable unless you're white and wealthy (likely born wealthy instead of working for it). Other countries and immigrants are promised wealth, liberty, and freedom when they enter the U.S borders. In the real world and as one settles into the U.S they will likely realize that it was all a facade and strictly an American DREAM not REALITY. Immigrants are likely to face discrimination from society and it's hard for them to find jobs that are sustainable enough for a themselves and even worse an entire family. There is no promised liberty and freedom even by the government because there are officials who want them out. This idea of the American Dream was to only bring more foreigners into the U.S to put them through hard labor and use them as machines for the products and raw materials being brought in to be put through mass production. The American Dream rumor was to trap these people within the borders of the US to work them down to the bone. If you're not white and likely born wealthy the American Dream that is promised is practically out of reach.

The video we watched expands on the idea that immigration to the US boosts the economy so in result we should encourage the rejection of immigration regulations. Although the American dream is very glorified, not every immigrant is guaranteed to achieve such results. The American dream is approachable to those strong enough to achieve it.

The American Dream is to live life lavishly, work hard but also make copious amounts of money in return and to just make your dreams come true in America because of the opportunities given. An example is my moms dream was to become a famous doctor and to live well in NYC and with moving to America she had that idea that America could make her big, she's almost there but not fully there but working towards it. She has received better opportunities here then the other countries she has lived in before but that doesn't mean others also experience that. Not many immigrants want to be hired "due to the affect it would have on the economy" and although my mom was about to do it doesn't mean everyone can hence why the American Dream is called a dream.

Furthermore, people should be able to experience anything that they want, anything that catches their eye. Instead of focusing society's high expectations in order to fit in shouldn't be an idea as one. So that one can live freely without having to worry about what backlash they may receive for it. In addition, whenever foreigners get taught or speak on America, it is seen as a glory country when in reality there are problems just in one country.

The American Dream is the idea of achieving the ideal living of an American without any struggles, typically it aims to succeed a level of economic status. If you are a person of color, it'll be challenging to achieve the American Dream because of the lack of privilege and freedom you have of coming to the U.S. and being dehumanized and viewed as an outcast from media and personal experiences. A real world example of the American Dream is people migrating to the U.S. in hopes of a better life, but in reality that idea of an American dream isn't realistic as an immigrant. Hill's mentions the immigration surplus with immigrants migrating to the U.S. for jobs and a source of income, these people come in hopes of a better life and job, but the education requirement interferes with where these people are working low paying jobs that are seen as "highly paid."

People have different aspects of what the American dream is and I think the American dream is being able to live freely in a country with no troubles or anything to run away from with money and the ability to take care of your family. For example, people come to America for better jobs, housing and life in general. America is known as the place of freedom and everything is great when thinking about coming here but I feel like those dreams disappear or become foggy once they get to this country. Hill talks about the wages rising and immigrants benefiting the economy long term by using the example of the Mariel boatlift where 100,000 Cuban immigrants came to Miami and wages weren't affected short term but they were long term.

The American Dream is a thought that goes through the minds of many immigrants and aspiring immigrants. It is the belief in a better life in America. America is seen as the country with the most opportunities in all aspects of life especially in occupation. According to Hill's video, when migrants come to America, wages rise and the economy grows as a result. This shows how this "American Dream" is turned into reality for immigrants.

The American Dream is the dream with high hopes and expectations to live freely as an American citizen and living with free human rights. It is not only about having the hope but also having the strong desire to live and proceed your life for yourself and your loved ones. Lastly, the American dream is where you sacrifice and take the risks of certain things you have just to have a better lifestyle. In reality, immigrants who enter a whole new country will be scared with multiple emotional thoughts once entering the country because this is where you have to make your own way through but once you start moving through and build up, this is where you feel that you succeeded to that goal. - SRABONTI D.

Immigrants a lot of the time risk a lot to come to the U.S and achieve the American Dream. People lose their families, homes, belongings, etc. Examples from Sin Nombre include, when Sayra father died when trying to jump across a train car and her father ended up dying on their way out of the country. Another example is that they lose their belongings and homes because in the film, Sayra and her family left everything behind at the beginning of the movie to board the train and only carried a couple backpacks worth of belongings with them on their journey, leaving their homes and the rest of their belongings. One example from my actual life is my father, when he came to the U.S. in 1992, he left behind a huge portion of his life. He left his family, most importantly his mother. He left his business, he used to run a farm. And he sacrificed all of these things in order to achieve the American Dream in the U.S. All in all, immigrants sacrifice a huge portion of their lives in order to achieve something greater. And sometimes the risks that come along are devastating and traumatic...

Immigrants risk everything when they go to America to get the American dream. But some main risk would be like for femals. They have a high chance of being harrassed or raped. And there's high chances if being robbed on the train or even being deported back to your home after the weeks you spent trying to cross the border. But immigrants do thirsty fain more opportunities and to get out of their dangerous homes. Evidence would be how sayra's uncle was deported back to his home after being caught and sayra was almost raped on the train. But even after that the uncle still tried to cross the border again and sayra made it across to border. Even along the way they were not safe from being robbed by gangs. Which just proves how dangerous it is and why they want to leave.

They probably choose to take the risks because of the very poor living conditions they had and they want to get more opportunity to have a better life and escape gang violence. For example, in sin nombre, they show how bad some places can be in Mexico and how gangs rule some places. Also, we can see how people will ride ontop of trains just to get to the border which is very dangerous, Lastly, when gangs were having a shootout, the police was nowhere to be seen.

In order to "access" the American Dream many immigrants risk a lot that includes their loved ones, or even their own health (mentally or physically). For example, while Syra and her family were on back of the train and past a railroad where it is exposed to the public, kids started to throw rocks at them while telling them to leave in Spanish. Another instance where their health was at risk was when Syra's brother, father, and uncle were on top of the train and a group of officers came on the side. The group had guns and started shooting at them, making them get up and try to take cover. Syra's dad lost his life while trying to make his journey towards the border which affected his loved ones like Syra and her younger brother. They take these risks in order to better their life and chase this "dream" that makes them have hardships and make decisions that can affect them in the future.

They make these risks because of the future they want to access and the idea of the American dream being their goal when migrating her. This idea of taking risks to access the American dream applies to Sayra jumped off the train to follow after Willy because she did not want to leave behind someone who she cared a lot about and shared hardships of their own.

Some immigrants risk leaving a lot of their family to access the American Dream. They also risk leaving their culture and heritage behind losing part of their identity to fit into this new country. They may take these risks though because of a lot of danger and bad conditions they experience and suffer from. For example, in Sin Nombre Casper had to run away from the gang because he was going to get killed after killing another gang member's girlfriend. His own girlfriend was killed as well so I feel like he was scarred and had to leave the gang members who were like a family for a better life.

An example of a risk that immigrants take to access the American dream is they might sacrifice people that come along the journey with them. What I mean by this is sometimes immigrants may be put into situations during their process where an individual might have to sacrifice their life or freedom for their peers. A time of when this happened in Sin Nombre was when Casper stayed behind to distract and tried to run from gang members trying to attack him and his people, but he ended up being killed instead of getting away.

I believe that immigrants practically risk their entire life and well being for the American Dream. There are people that would leave their homes with a limited supply of food and water. This is an obvious hazard but they also put themselves in harms way… Such as getting on a train and the possibility of falling onto the tracks. For example, Sayra’s father passed away by falling in between the cars and got ran over.

Immigrants risk their welfares in order to access the American dream. Throughout the movie, we see that that the journey to the American border is harsh and not suitable for everyone. In the movie the director emphasizes events that occur while on the route. These events includes bandits getting on board La Bestia and robbing people of their money. People know these horrible events that could take place but they believe in the American dream so much that they'll risk their lives in order to achieve it.

Some immigrants risk to access the american dream because it's too hard for some people to live in Mexico, or their income is too low so they want to go to an environment with higher income to get a better lifestyle. It really could mean their life to access the American dream, considering how dangerous it is with gang violence on the way to the border. For example, Casper was telling Sayra how he got all of his gunshot wounds and other wounds, representing how much he had to go through.

They can risk getting seriously injured or even killed as well. They can experience severe trauma that can last a life time. In the movie there was a character who fell off the train while migrating so he risked his life. They would probably choose to takes those risk because A they are not knowledgeable/misinformed of the things that can happen to them or B they are hopeless and fleeing their country is their only way out.

Immigrants risk their lives of themselves and their children just to enter a new country that will provide them a better lifestyle. Immigrants risk themselves by having to sacrifice their life (as in death) and/or go through a traumatic experience(s). In Sin Nombre, Sayra's father and uncle were caught by police guards since they were on the roof of the train but since the father wanted his brother to get across to Texas, he kept telling him to keep running but the father jumped off the train so only the uncle survives. Sayra did leave her brothers in the first place with Casper but this was a faster way just to get across the border and to make it to Texas. Immigrants also have a lot of sympathy for others in which in this case, Casper was able to get Sayra on the other side by paying a guy to take her by water but at the last moment he was caught by the gang members and got killed by Smiley. But as you see on Sayra's big reaction, you see how highly it impacted her feelings because Casper was the closest friend that she had who was able to help her. In conclusion, Immigrants do have fear but there are some who are fearless but have sympathy for others because they know that all immigrants almost have the same expectation when you think of the American Dream.
