Wild and Out Dance Party

Divide class into teams or do as a whole group. Get some groovy music playing and let the dances begin! I like to start with dances people already know to get them used to moving: the floss, the running man, the gritty, etc. Then the teacher calls out the name of a dance that doesn't exist and students make up the dance that goes with it. Encourage students to follow dances that look the best, or if you are playing on teams encourage the teams to dance together as a cohesive group. Repeat with different new dance titles that incorporate vocab words, concepts, or are just silly!

Story Cubes

You can use THIS WEBSITE or create story cubes of your own using flashcards.

There are many ways to approach this activity! In one approach, one person is the storyteller, the others are the actors. The storyteller rolls the dice and tells a story based on the pictures that are showing. While the storyteller tells the story, the others can act it out. Extra points for incorporating vocab words or class topics!

Another way is to collectively tell the story with each person taking one of the dice and one part of the story. This forces students to listen and build off of the previous ideas.

Butter Melt

Imagine you are a cold stick of butter in the fridge. Get as tight as you can. All of those milk solids are hard as a rock. Someone grabs you and put you out on the counter. The sun shines through the window and you gradually begin to melt. Slowly, your body unfolds as the butter gets soft in the hot sunlight. Then someone throws you into a pan. You start to sizzle and as you saute in the pan. So hot you dance around as they throw some popcorn in with you! Sizzle! Pop! Pop! Pop! They pull you out of the pan just in time to curl up on the couch for a movie.
