James Watson and Francis Crick worked together to study DNA, based on the techniques and research of several other scientists.

They were inspired by Phoebus Levene, who had done research on the components of nucleotides, and other scientists like Rosalind Franklin and Linus Pauling.

Linus Pauling worked to find the "alpha-helix" corkscrew structure of DNA. Watson and Crick used his X-ray diffraction technique to study DNA.
