My name is Mehmed, and I will soon cross the Sahara with my caravan. I'm in charge of the men. Just the thought of the desert mass is scorching hot. This journey is for the Salt-Gold trade. The salt is in the south, the gold in the north. We trek across the arid land on camel, and attempt to ignore the heat. This trip is fatal, for we may meet thieves, run out of provisions, or even get lost. We may only hope for safety, which we may not receive. Alas, a life without danger is a life wasted.

Today is the day we must buy our provisions. Morocco is hot, but not as hot as the Sahara. The marketplace smells like sweat and spices, a somewhat disheveling stench. It's a bustling place, awfully full for this time of day. Loud talking fills the air, all different languages- half of which I don't understand. Ali, leader of the caravan, leads us around as we purchase all kinds of items. Camels, food, clothing, jugs for water. As I walk, many unusual items appear, people too. We soon find all of our items, and leave to rest.

I awaken, and immediately see a sick man. He is one of my favorites, for he is trustworthy. Yet, he may have influenza. Should we leave him behind? He may be too weak. No, we cannot abandon him. It is unfair. With a sigh of slight contempt, I lay again, and continue to rest. He shall be okay.

We have left recently. Within the day, many travelers warned of bandits. This concerns me, for the men look to me for guidance. I am unsure of what to do now. We could either flee, fight, or bribe.
