To me, this means incorporating things that students have expressed interest in. This can be done by integrating science topics with other subjects such as ELA or Social Studies. There are many topics in science and SS that overlap or coincide with each other which can help me as a teacher to include topics that my students are interested in and helping them as learners of science. In order to find topics in science that students are interested in, I have learned that it is important to have students complete a survey where they can express things they would like to learn or are interested in learning. In this course, I engaged in many activities that enhanced my thoughts of myself as a science learner. I enjoyed the activities that we did in class that allowed for exploration and discovery. I also found it helpful that although we were supposed to be learning about teaching science, we were also students who went through the learning process of science topics. When behaving as a learner of science, I saw firsthand how the 5E model takes place in real science lessons even when I am engaging in each step of the model.
