As a former architect, my original dream was to create beautiful play Spaces for children. However, I realize that this doesn't really address the growing mental health issues among teenagers. My art practice aims to focus and heal these issues through the power of art to give a voice to children growing up in similar environments.

I am passionate about creating digital art and use software such as 3ds Max, Blender, UE5 and ZBrush. This not only allows me to achieve greater creative efficiency, but also ensures environmental sustainability. At the same time, I am also good at ceramic making, combining digital art with ceramics to enhance the depth and breadth of creation.

My work is based on personal experience - growing up in a repressive family environment, I experienced severe depression. Through art, I turn my inner pain into motivation and strive to bring more attention to the impact of wrong parenting on mental health. The mental health of adolescents is not only an individual dilemma, but also a hidden concern of the society. My goal is to help more children emerge from the shadows with healing and hope by promoting understanding and solutions through art.

Artwork Statement

This piece uses wool as its medium, dyed with coffee, vodka, cola, and various types of tea, intertwining emotions, taste, vision, and everyday life. Each dye represents a unique memory and cultural experience, leaving unrepeatable marks on the wool through natural absorption and blending, creating a map of emotional colors.

The aroma of coffee and the alertness it brings, the spiciness of vodka followed by its exhilarating effect, the sweetness of cola, and the elegance and relaxation of tea each symbolize different emotional states and moments of life. These beverages not only evoke taste memories but are also translated through the dyeing process into rich textures and colors, inspiring viewers to revisit the nuances of everyday experiences.

This work explores how emotions are awakened by taste memories and expressed through visual language. It connects the senses with life, with the softness of wool and the unpredictability of dye patterns symbolizing the delicate and elusive nature of emotions. These sensory experiences also reflect the tangible yet abstract feeling of love—real, yet impossible to fully define. Through this piece, viewers are invited to not only appreciate the artistic interplay of colors and materials but also to contemplate the profound connections between sensory experiences, emotional expression, and memories of life.

The warm, yet contrasting palette evokes a layered emotional depth—both the ache of past wounds and the light of newfound clarity. The statement "Love as a woman's salvation is a lie" runs through the work, rejecting societal myths of dependency and redefining what it means to rebuild oneself. "Searching" speaks to a journey of confronting illusions, finding one’s footing, and ultimately rediscovering strength through introspection and growth.

这是一个通过佛教哲学视角表达心理健康话题的3D短片，灵感来自个人经历和对人群的观察。该作品旨在呼吁对心理健康的关注并让人们意识到这是一个不容忽视的问题。选择结合佛教文化的表达方式是因为我近几年有一些接触佛学的经历，我认为它是一种生活方式，是对我们自己心理的研究，也是实现稳定心理状态的一种实践。这使我把这些理论和方法与心理健康这个主题结合起来，基于人们对有关心理状态和佛教研究的问卷回答，创作出了一个颠倒版的‘净土’。

谢韬，数字艺术家，现居伦敦。主要从事于3D影像制作、虚拟与混合现实等沉浸式体验设计。毕业于英国皇家艺术学院，在近年来的项目实践中探索不同的数字叙事方法。受个人经历与信仰影响，创作方向主要关注在身份认同、社会行为分形与矛盾、心理健康以及宗教范式在艺术领域中的研究应用。展览经历包括在欧洲拥有世界最大环绕式屏幕的Outernet London展出、在英国最大商业沉浸画廊举办展览并驻留长达半年、在巴黎IRCAM-蓬皮杜艺术中心展演、在欧洲广告周展出、在美国SXSW电影节展映作品等。

Description:

Stand in Silence presents a serene, minimalist landscape. A vast expanse of land, rendered in earthy tones of brown and gold, stretches into the horizon under a vibrant gradient sky transitioning from deep blue to soft green and pink. The quiet, almost meditative scene is punctuated by white, abstract forms resembling distant hills or snow-covered terrain. The work conveys a sense of peace, solitude, and connection to nature, inviting viewers to pause and reflect.

I always would like to be a transmitter of romance, to explore some of the memories that I want to cherish through paintings. 

We live together with so many intricate living beings, and memory is the container for our consciousness, storing the faintest connection between people and the social environment or the natural environment. People write diaries or take photos, but I want to keep collecting and hoarding short and small memory fragments by illustrating, so that these different emotions can span time and space, telling little stories in a simple but meticulous, ordinary and gentle way.

I specialize in using opaque watercolor as the primary tool for painting, with watercolor, gouache and colored pencil as secondary media. Different from light and airy watercolor works, I want to express a feeling of "this is from a memory", so I will deliberately reduce the saturation and contrast of the painting and blur the edges to create a dreamlike hazy feeling. I’m always more subjective in extracting the emotional tones and emphasizing the memorable details among the complicated information.

Artist bio:

Mingxian Xiang was born in Guiyang, China in 1997. She graduated from Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London in 2023. Mingxian specializes in using opaque watercolor to do her illustration works. Mingxian is now active as an illustrator and 2D animator based in London.
