Naturalistic acting is the mirage that portrays an ordinary and natural setting;it wouldn't include drama techniques like thoughts aloud, split scene or slow motion.
Actors would use naturalistic acting to create a sense of real life into the performance. Constantin Stanislavski was a Russian theatre practitioner, his method of acting was naturalism, which he called "The System".
This is a piece of drama where a group of actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, perform as 'soldiers that are being interviewed and they talk about their loved ones at home'.

Who was Constantin Stanislavski?
Constantin Stanislavski was a Russian actor and director/ theatre practitioner who originated a system of acting. His system was called Naturalism. Stanislavski believed that an actor needed a sense of isolation in order to produce a characterisation and avoid unnecessary tension. He created the "Magic If". This is only one element of his method and what this is, is essentially asking yourself, as an actor "What if?". But it must be related to your character or the theme. Constantin Stanislavski

A naturalistic actor has to use their emotion to create a realistic performance. For example, lets say your cat died two weeks ago; you can input that into a character that, for example, has just lost their son. They both share the same "emotion" because they have both lost something that was very persona to them. Or even you don't have to share the same kind of emotion but it does have to be similar in a way like if the character has to be sad then find a sad memory, deep in your mind to use for the sadness of the character. This is a video about how to become the character and how to make it realistic.

In the play, the actors used naturalism and physical theatre to express their characters feelings and personality.

In class we have been doing chair duets. My group has three people so we are going to have me and the other do the duet together and then the third will 'pull' me out of the chair and then they will begin their different chair duet. In chair duets you must keep physical contact nearly all off the time. This can show the bonding of the two characters and expose what type of relationship they have. Facial expressions also have a big part in chair duets, it shows how your character feel towards the other character. This video is an example of chair duets. In the video, both the actors have neutral faces which shows us that their characters may not be friends or know each other at all. The Othello cast take part in Chair Duets

Epic theatre is the name of the theatre that was created by Bertolt Brecht, a working class man. As Brecht was from Germany and was becoming a playwright around the time of the holocaust, it impacted his work; He used his theatre to tell the audience what was happening during the war in Germany. Brecht got into some serious trouble as he was revealing government/political secrets. This lead him to be exiled.
Brecht moved to L.A, Hollywood, where he gained credibility. But when the war ended he moved back to his home country, Germany. He later founded 'Berliner Ensemble' in 1949.
Brecht was annoyed about the privileges that upper class had compared to the "lower class", which he was in. This later became the main focus of his plays and it made people think about social class.
After the war, he had credibility so people began to like his work.
Brecht didn't like Naturalism. His and Stanislavski's work contrasted. Brecht didn't stick to everyone else's opion as he wanted to stand out, he wanted to be different.
He didn't want the audience to become emotionally involved as he wanted to make them think and make a reasoned judgement. The audience had to be separated and leave with facts and information for his work to be successful.

The fourth wall is an imaginary wall in theatre. On a stage there are three walls because the audience are sitting 'in the fourth wall'. Brecht would often break the fourth wall in his plays to distance the audience from the characters. This distracts the audience from empathizing with characters so they focus on the information that is being pushed through the performance.
