         <description><![CDATA[<div>This article was based on a study conducted in&nbsp; Sweden. "The purpose was to understand and discuss the relation between students' digital access, students' perceived affordances with digital writing, and student agency" (Dahlstrom, 2018). The digital development is constantly changing and evolving for everyone, but our younger generation has grasped these new possibilities far greater than those of us who did not have an education immersed in technology. The knowledge learned from this article and others similar can lead to a deeper understanding of how writing education can be designed to provide students more equal conditions to express meaning while writing. The study showed how the students were more engaged and interested in writing through the use of technology. They also learned the students wrote more extensively and were not as worn down because of the strain on their hand. While conducting the study they found the students had access to a digital tool at home, but the majority shared it with family members. Students expressed writing on the digital tool (computer) had less obstacles because it was easy to edit, more readable, faster, and there are valuable tools to help with the writing process (Ex: spell check, listen to what was written, etc). The students in the study also shared how it fostered more independence in writing. From the study there were positive outcomes about digital writing tools in the classroom especially in the area of writing. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Classroom Application</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Since this article was more of a study I could think of a few ways how what I read and learned could be applied to my own classroom.&nbsp;<br>1. First, I thought of conducting a survey for the students to see how many have digital access at home. We eventually find the information out, BUT I see a great need to do this early in the year. I could create a digital survey through an online tool and have the students complete it in the classroom during the first week of school. This would allow me to see who has access, who may have greater experience using digital tools and could be an asset to help others, and understand how I can scaffold in the classroom in the area of technology.&nbsp;One of the questions could also be about the interest in using more technology in the classroom for writing.<br><br>2. The second idea from this article was utilizing word processing or Google docs as a writing outlet for my students. Yes, pen and paper is important, but so is typing skills and the usage of these amazing technology programs available. I have had students publish writing in the past, but I want to use it more often. Journal writing, narrative writing, persuasive writing, informational writing, ANY type of genre for writing can be utilized. I really feel the students would be more engaged than paper and pencil and motivated to write more, edit, revise, and learn more about the process. </div>]]></description>
