For most of my life I lived with my grandmother in a modest village. This is because my mother had to immigrate to the United States to give me a better life. I was only two month old when my mother left me with my grandma. My grandmother was everything for me. She styled my hair, make sure I was healthy, and clean . Overall, my grandmother was like my mother even though she didn't give birth to me.

The doctors discovered that my grandmother's health have been compromised by a blockage in her heart veins. In addition, Her cardiomegaly condition made her health status even worse. As a result of this she couldn't walk much because of fatigue and shortness of breath. She couldn't cook or clean, and do anything her usual responsibilities. Eventually, I basically became her private nurse. I had to helped her to take a shower, make sure that she was breathing because her lunges weren't working well either. I also had to helped her cook, clean the house, and go to the supermarket. I even had to style her hair. It was like that was my time to return her everything she did for me.

What did I do to overcome this obstacle?

On top of that I had to take care of my grandma, and make sure that everything was neat and clean at the house, I had to complete my school work. I had to wake up early in order to leave the house clean, and make sure that my grandma was feeling well. I had to go home right after school to make sure that everything was okay at home , and that she had taken her medicine. Because my grandmother couldn't walk much, I had to attend my school's parents meetings because then I wouldn't receive the information that I needed to know.

I learned to be independent because I had to do everything by myself. In the first place, if there was a problem with the electricity or the gas, I was the one who had to solve it. In the second place, I had to make sure that all bills were pay on time. In the third place, I had to distribute the money that my mother sent us, so it would be able to cover everything. Plus, I had to travel with her two hours and half to get to Santiago City, Where her cardiologist had his office. Not to mention, that there were nights in which I couldn't sleep because my grandma wasn't feeling well and I had to go to school really tired and complete all my work.
I also learned how to be patience. This is because I had to take from my school time to attend my grandma. I remember that there were days in which I didn't assist to school because I couldn't leave her alone. Moreover, she would forget things and I had to repeat them to her many many times. This sometimes upset me a little, but then I remember that it wasn't her fault, instead it was the time playing its cards.
