Riya's mother believed that the girl's father abducted her on the day of her birthday which was on February, 14th, 2019. Riya was the subject of a late-night Amber Alert. Riya's mother went to the police to report an abduction for her 11 year old daughter. On the day of Riya's birthday, her mother did not have Riya returned by her father which caused a huge concern for Riya's mother. Riya's mother was very worried due to Roopesh Rajkumar (Riya's father) stating he would harm himself and his daughter. Rajkumar was then charged with first-degree murder after his 11 year old daughter was found dead in his apartment located in Brampton. The Amber Alert had many civilians calling the 911 emergency reporting the vehicle used. After arresting Rajkumar, police became aware of a medical concern involving the suspect and brought him to a hospital. Roopesh Rajkumar was transferred to a trauma center. The BlogTO gave the opportunity to create an important content for viewers. This is a marketing tactic to drive many viewers to get the full scoop on the incident that occurred with Riya Rajkumar. Many people believe that stories that come from blogs are extra information given to the press rather than the local news. When Riya Rajkumar was found dead, many people used hashtags to spread the awareness of how effectively the Amber Alert was used.
