Initial planting video. The HT Radical Radishes mixed 50% lunar regolith, 25% garden soil, 12.5% perlite, and 12.5%

coffee grounds to see if it would create the largest radishes possible, because

radishes need healthy amounts of potassium and phosphorus. Coffee grounds have both,

and perlite has a little potassium. Perlite will also help keep the plants from drowning.

Initial planting video. The HT Best Tomatoes are trying to figure out how seeds will grow after being treated with plasma. The purpose of this experiment is to provide the astronauts with nutritious and growable food in outer space, the moon and Mars. The team thinks if grape tomato seeds are treated with plasma for 30 seconds to 2 minutes then the germination and growth speed rate will increase by a significant amount, because the plasma roughs up the seed coat increasing the water uptake of the seed.

going to grow Bok Choy (Chinese Cabbage). We will use 50% regolith, 75% regolith, and 100% regolith. Bok Choy is very beneficial for astronauts because it helps with bone health, which is very important in space because you start to lose bone strength due to the lack of gravity. The plant

contains iron, phosphors, calcium, magnesium, zinc and Vitamin K. We selected this crop because we saw its nutritious values, and thought that it would be good to research for space travel.

With all of our mixes the proportion of lunar regolith will be larger than the cow manure. Lastly, our proportions are 50/50, 60/40, and 75/25. We are growing lettuce plants for our Plant the Moon project. We chose this plant because we thought the speed of growth and germination would make it a great option for this product.

final crop of okra. Okra is known to grow best in natural sunlight. This project will test if by changing the color of the lighting, the okra will grow to a different size.

Our hypothesis is that the okra will grow best in white light, because

it is similar to natural light. However, we will also test the okra in blue and red light.

We chose the salad leaves because we wanted it to be in the range of the timing of the project. Salad leaves are also really easy to grow and take 7-8 weeks to be fully grown. The benefits of growing salad leaves is that they grow continuously all year round. Salad leaves also are full of good nutrition and could possibly be something good to grow on the Moon or Mars. Salad leaves are not only healthy but very beneficial to the planet itself.

The crop that we are growing is spinach because it takes 35-55 days to fully grow, you can do multiple harvests, and it has many nutritional benefits, such as iron, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins A, B6, B9, C, and E.
