The purpose of this experiment is to provide the astronauts with nutritious and growable food in outer space, the moon and Mars. The team thinks if grape tomato seeds are treated with plasma for 30 seconds to 2 minutes then the germination and growth speed rate will increase by a significant amount, because the plasma roughs up the seed coat increasing the water uptake of the seed.

The plants are grown under white light and red light. We chose the salad leaves because we wanted it to be in the range of the timing of the project. Salad leaves are also really easy to grow and take 7-8 weeks to be fully grown. The benefits of growing salad leaves is that they grow continuously all year round. Salad leaves also are full of good nutrition and could possibly be something good to grow on the Moon or Mars. Salad leaves are not only healthy but very beneficial to the planet itself.
