On the first session of Usrah, we had a discussion about Adab in Seeking Knowledge. Each member of the usrah shared their opinions about the adab they practice while studying at CFS IIUM. While they were speaking, I listened carefully and took notes on the points they mentioned.

As the Prophet ﷺ said:

مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَلْتَمِسُ فِيهِ عِلْمًا سَهَّلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِهِ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ

“Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.” (Sahih Muslim)

Reflecting on this, how we as IIUM students, can implement this in our daily routines during studies:

	1.	Extra reading – Reading and doing some research on the topic before and after lectures to gain a deeper understanding.

	2.	Preparing before class – Reviewing notes or readings beforehand so we can follow the lecture more effectively.

	3.	Taking notes – Writing down important points during lectures to help us remember key ideas and stay attentive.

	4.	Clarifying confusion – Asking questions whenever something is unclear so that we can truly understand and not leave doubts unanswered.

	5.	Reviewing regularly – Revisiting notes and materials consistently to strengthen our understanding and prepare well for exams.

	6.	Summarizing lectures – Making concise summaries for easier recall of the main concepts.

Goals and feelings:

I learned that seeking knowledge is not only about getting information, but also about having good manners and character. The discussion inspired me and reminded me that knowledge is a trust and responsibility from Allah SWT, not just for personal achievement . I hope that with the knowledge I gain, I can use it in my studies as part of my duty to Allah SWT.

USRAH SESSION 2 (22/8/2025)

On the second Usrah session, we discussed the significance of Hadith Jibril in the foundation of Islam. We talked about Islam, Iman, and Ihsan. After that, we were given a task in pairs to make a poster about these three important concepts. I was assigned to prepare the poster, while my partners provided the information for me to include.

From the discussion, I learned more about the Five Pillars of Islam:

	1.	Declaration of Faith– believing and declaring that there is no god but Allah and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is His messenger.

	2.	Obligatory Prayer– performing the five daily prayers.

	3.	Compulsory Giving (Zakat) – giving part of our wealth to help those in need.

	4.	Fasting in Ramadan (Sawm) – abstaining from food, drink, and desires during the day in Ramadan.

	5.	Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) – performing pilgrimage at least once in a lifetime if able.

These pillars are important because they strengthen our bond with Allah.

Next, I learned about Iman, which has six articles of belief:

	1.	Belief in Allah

	2.	His angels

	3.	His books

	4.	His messengers

	5.	The Last Day

	6.	Divine decree (Qadar)

Iman is important because it builds our trust and dependence on Allah in everything that happens in life.

Lastly, I learned about Ihsan, which means worshipping Allah as if we see Him, and even though we cannot see Him, we believe He sees us. Ihsan is important because it brings sincerity, humility, and mindfulness to both belief and action.

Goals and feelings:

I learned that Islam, Iman, and Ihsan are the foundation of our religion. By understanding and practicing them, I can strengthen my faith, improve my character, and build a closer relationship with Allah and others.

On Usrah session 3, we had a talk about the Pillars of Iman. Our facilitator shared with us the importance of believing in these pillars as the foundation of a Muslim’s faith.

What I learned during Usrah 3:

	1.	Belief in Allah (God)

I learned that we must believe in Allah as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. To apply this, we can strengthen our faith by performing the five daily prayers, reflecting on the Qur’an, and believing in Allah as He is described in the Qur’an.

	2.	Belief in the Malaikah (Angels)

Angels are created by Allah from light. They record our deeds, deliver revelations, and constantly praise Allah.

I realized that angels are always present even though unseen, and they witness our actions. To apply this belief, we should obey Allah’s commands and strive to do good so that our records will benefit us in the Hereafter.

	3.	Belief in the Kutub (Revealed Books)

Allah revealed divine books to guide mankind, such as the Torah, Zabur, Injil, and the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the final and complete guidance for us. To apply this, we should study and practice its teachings, and also share the stories and lessons from the Qur’an with our friends and family so they too can benefit from its wisdom.

Goals and feelings:

Each of these pillars reminds me of my responsibility as a Muslim to obey Allah, follow His guidance, and prepare for the Hereafter. I wish to strengthen my iman by applying these pillars in my daily life.

During Usrah 4, we continued our discussion on the pillars of iman. Our facilitator explained about belief in the Hereafter, belief in Rasul, and belief in Qada’ and Qadar. After that, we were assigned to do a poster in groups. My task was to provide information to help my partner complete the poster.

What I learned:

	1.	Belief in Rasul and Anbiya

-Rasul are chosen messengers who receive revelation and bring new laws, while Anbiya are prophets who continue teaching the message.

-Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger.

-Their examples teach us patience, sincerity, and dedication to Allah.

	2.	Belief in Qada’ and Qadar

-Everything happens with Allah’s knowledge, will, and decree.

-It teaches us to be grateful in good times and patient during trials.

-Gives peace of mind and reliance on Allah.

	3.	Belief in the Hereafter

-Every deed will be judged by Allah.

-The righteous will be rewarded with Paradise, while those who reject faith will face punishment.

-It reminds us to always prepare for the afterlife with good deeds.

Goals and feelings:

I learned the importance of faith in Rasul, Qada & Qadar, and the Hereafter as guidance for life. It teaches patience, reliance on Allah, and awareness that our actions will be judged in the hereafter.

Q1: What are we most grateful for?

I am most grateful for having supportive parents who motivate me in my studies. They always make sure that all my needs are fulfilled. They give me facilities such as a laptop, an iPad, and pocket money, which makes it easier for me to focus on my studies . In addition, they also provide emotional support and advice whenever I face challenges. Their prayers and sacrifices are the main reason for my success, and I am truly thankful to have them in my life.

On Usrah session 5, we had a discussion about the reasons and sources of hikmah from ibadah. The facilitator helped us understand how acts of worship contain wisdom and meaningful purposes in a Muslim’s life. After the discussion, we were assigned to create a video in groups. I was responsible for the introduction part of the video to explain about what is hajj is. Based on the usrah, I learned:

Ibadah is prescribed to strengthen our relationship with Allah, purify our hearts, discipline our behavior, and develop good character. Acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, zakah, and hajj help us become more patient, sincere, and conscious of Allah in our daily lives.

Goals and Feelings:

This usrah session helped me understand ibadah more deeply, especially through the guidance and explanations given by the usrah assistant. The assistant played an important role in helping us see the wisdom behind acts of worship and encouraged us to reflect beyond the physical actions. As a result, I gained new knowledge and realized that ibadah is not only about performing rituals, but also about having the right understanding and intention. I hope that I can apply the lessons learned from this usrah in my daily life, perform my worship with sincerity.
