Activities we would use to help teach our students about caring for their teeth and why it's important! These are the activities we would use so that:
*Children will be able to identify at least two purposes that teeth serve.
*Children can name at least three foods that are good for healthy teeth.
*Children can describe three ways to promote dental health.

These are some book recommendations I found which could be read to the kids. One is the book: Why do I brush my teeth? Which has many great activities that you can do with your students. Another is the book: I Know Why I Brush My Teeth is about a boy who talks to his mother about dental health. One more cute and good book to use is the book called: Tooth Trouble by Jane Clarke (Author), Cecilia Johansson (Illustrator)

An "egg"spiriment could be done together. Which begins by explaining to the kids that the enamel on our teeth is similar to the shell on an egg. They both help to protect what's beneath. Then, put a boiled egg in a container with water and another egg in a container of cola. The students kept an eye on the eggs for a few days to see if any changes
occurred. It was discovered that the egg in the water did not change. However, there was some changes to the egg in the soda. The shell turned brown and its shell became weaker. You could rub off some of the egg shell. This experiment will help the kids knowldege of how sugary drinks and food can break down the enamel on their teeth and lead to cavities and toothaches.

We all know that teaching children about brushing their teeth can be challenging. Using a song however is a great way to not only get them kids excited, but they will likely remember the jingle and start to have a better understanding of what it means to take care of their teeth. Here are some of our favorite songs about teeth:
Brushing (to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
Here's my toothpaste
Here's my brush
I won't hurry, I won't rush.
Working hard to keep teeth clean
Front and back and in between
When I brush for quite a while
I will have a happy smile.

The Toothbrush Song (to the tune of "Row ,Row, Row Your Boat")
Brush, brush, brush your teeth
Brush them everyday.
We put toothpaste on our brush
To help stop tooth decay.
Floss, floss, floss your teeth.
Floss them every day!
Using the string to clean between
Keeps the plaque away!
Clean, clean, clean your teeth.
Clean them every day!
Your teeth will sparkle for years to come
In the most beautiful way!
Brush, brush, brush your teeth.
Brush them every day!
Happy, healthy teeth you'll have
If it's done this way.

I’ve Been Brushing (To the tune of “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”)
I’ve been brushing with my toothbrush,
Brushing every day
I’ve been brushing with my toothbrush,
It’s how I fight decay.
All my teeth are gonna sparkle,
How proud I will be.
Every time I want to smile, my
Teeth will shine for me!
Always brush your teeth,
Every single day.
Keep those cavities away!
Use your brush and paste,
Just the way you should,
Keep your smile a-lookin’ good!
