  • Elya Yelnats lived in Latvia and he fell in love with Myra Menke. To impress her and her father, he asked Madame Zeroni for help. 
    • She told him to carry the smallest pig up the mountain and sing to it to make it grow. 
    On the last day, he would have to carry Madame Zeroni up the mountain. He made this promise to her.

    2. Even though he showed the fat pig to the Menke family, they weren't interested. Heartbroken, he left Latvia but broke his promise. 

    3. Madame Zeroni felt cheated and cursed him and his family for forever and eternity!

    He found that he was still so unlucky so he wondered if whether the curse was true. He spent a long time looking for Madame Zeroni's son in the USA but couldn't find him. 

    They eventually had a son which they named Stanley since it is a palindrome of 'Yelnats'.

She was the woman that Trout Walker, a horrible rich man was in love with. She, however, didn't like him at all.

    There as an onion seller named Sam. He was well trusted by the people of Green Lake since his onions healed many ailments and problems. 

    Sam would help fix Katherine's old school and they soon strated to fall in love.

Not to mention, Sam was a black man while everyone else was white, and unfortunately, racism was very strong in that time. 

    Angry, the town turned against Katherine and Sam. Students stopped going to her school, they called her the Devil Woman and even burned down her school.
    She asked the sheriff for help but he didn't bother. Instead, he wanted to kiss her which made Katherine even more upset. 

    The town wanted to hang Sam for kissing Katherine since it was illegal for a black man to kiss a white woman. 

    Katherine tried to escape with Sam on the Mary Lou boat, but they got attacked by Trout Walker's boat and Sam was shot.

    Katherine lived there in an old cabin when Trout Walker and his wife came, intending to get her treasure. 

    They forced her to show where it was buried, but a yellow spotted lizard bit her ankle when she fell down on the vast wasteland.
