This time the novel Persuasion by Jane Austen is analyzed; Persuasion is an old romance novel where love is harmed by betrayal and distance.

Likewise, they are all set in an aristocratic social environment, in which elegance and good manners prevail, but also prejudice and superficiality. The writer usually approaches the problem by way of parody or light criticism. In the case of "Persuasion" (the writer's last novel, published posthumously) there is a certain maturity in her style, traces of an evolution that was interrupted by her premature death. Austen never lost that remarkable quality of delving into and describing in minute detail the feelings of the characters. The Elliots are a respected and titled landowning family. Lady Elliot, Sir Walter's wife, died fourteen years ago, leaving him with three daughters: Elizabeth, Anne and Mary. Both Elizabeth and Anne are single, but the younger Mary is married to a wealthy man named Charles Musgrove; They live nearby. Sir Walter, who was lavishly overspending, has put the family heavily in debt. But with no other choice, the Elliots decide they should move to a house in Bath where their expenses will be more manageable. They soon find excellent tenants to rent their house; Admiral and Mrs. Croft are wealthy and educated Navy people who have a model marriage. Mr. Elliot is extremely fond of Anne, and it soon becomes clear that he seeks to make her his wife. While in Bath, Anne is reunited with an old school friend, Mrs. Smith, who has recently become a widow and fallen on hard times. From Mrs. Smith, Anne learns of Mr. Elliot's hidden past; he learns that he has mistreated Mrs. Smith and that he plans to marry Anne to ensure that he becomes sole heir to the baronetcy of Kellynch. Mr. Elliot fears that Sir Walter will marry Mrs. Clay, have a child, and thereby deprive him of his title. He conspires to ensure that he will remain Sir Walter's heir. Anne is horrified to hear this news. Main event:
The Elliot family is left with very low financial resources, which is why they have to move to a more considerate home. The house they rent turns out to be rented to the relatives of Anne Elliot's great eternal love, where he unexpectedly reunites with his love and there begins the love story of the two of them.
Order of events
Exposure: The author presents the novel persuasion as a romantic fiction.

Growing actions: The Elliot family moves house and Anne visits her sister and that is where she meets the captain, the love of her life.

Climax: The major climax occurs when Captain Wentworth finally reveals his feelings to Anne in a letter. She finds him and immediately responds that his love is requited; the lesser climax is the cool, but favourable reception of Captain Wentworth by Anne's family.

Falling Action: Anne tries to forget about the captain and start her life again.

Resolution: Anne and the captain stay together

Somersetshire is where the Kellynch Hall is. Elliot family first lived there but when they were in debt, they had to leave to Bath except for Mary and Anne who stayed in the Uppercross with the Musgroves. While the Elliot family stayed in Bath, the Croft family came to rent the Kellynch Hall. Later when Captain Westworth arrives at the Kellynch Hall, the Musgroves, Anne, Mary, and Captain Westworth go to the Lyme Regis where they meet Harvilles, Captain Benwick, and Mr. Elliot. As of time, it takes place in the summer of 1814 when Napoleon was defeated. Since the war ended, the officers began coming back home like Captain Westworth. Anne regrets her decision of following what she thought was the right thing to do: to reject Captain Wentworth. Later she realizes that it is best to follow what you really desire. She is characterized as quiet, humble, and clever. She is also characterized as responsible  because she was the one to take good care of Mary's children and often received compliments from Mrs. Musgrove. Also, she is selfless because she sacrifices herself to bring best to others.
 
Captain Wentworth: He is a naval officer who is looked down by Sir Walter because he was born in low status. However, he was able to reach the high status after he came back from a war. Therefore, he was able to recieve respect and love from others especially the Musgroves. After he was rejected by Anne, he is upset because of the way Anne was so easily persuaded by Lady Russell and does not bother to look back at the reasons for Anne's actions. However, he falls in love with her again and proposes his love through a letter.
 
Mr. William Elliot: He is Antagonists Mr. Elliot breaks off from the Elliot family line when he decides to marry a rich woman with the desire to become wealthy. However, when his wife died, he comes back and attempts to marry Anne in order to get Sir Walter's title as the only male heir. This plan was a failure because Anne finds out the truth of Mr. Elliot from Mrs.Smith. In the novel, he is protrayed as a hypocrisy since he was only acting to love Anne for his title.
 
Sir Walter Elliot: He is the rich owner of Kellynch and the father of Anne. He is too prideful of his wealthiness because he only wants to be seen with upper class good looking people and spends alot of money which causes debt. He is obssessed with appearance and rank.
 
Elizabeth Elliot: She is the oldest daughter of Sir Walter and his favorite for being mostly like him. She only cares about physical appearaces and being with upper class people. Just like her father, she is obsessed with rank and acts selfish. With this personality and superiority, she remains unmarried.
 
Mary Elliot: She is the youngest daughter of Sir Walter who marries Charles Musgrove. She has two children but she is not responsible of them because she is more focused on her entertainment and social status.
 
Louisa Musgrove:  She is Charles' younger sister who is characterized as headstrong, confident, and enthusiastic, very opposite from Anne. She falls in love with Captain Wentworth and tries her best to get attention from him. Her strong determination to win Captain Wentworth causes herself to fall from the stairs during a walk purposely. However, at the end, she eventually marries Captain Benwick.
 
Lady Russell: She is a close friend with Sir Walter's dead wife Elizabeth. She tries to help the Elliot family by giving advices. For example, she persuades Sir Walter to move into Bath in order to get out of debt. She also persuades Anne from marrying Captain Wentworth which was a bad advice.

That also means we have their blind spots too. A good example of this is when, after seeing Captain Wentworth through the window of Molland's tearoom, Anne feels "a great inclination to go to the outer door; she wanted to see if it was raining" and thinks, "Why Was she going to suspect herself for another reason? The narrator doesn't jump in and say, "but I REALLY hoped to get Wentworth's attention," instead letting Anne's version stand on its own without further comment. And while we do have some scenes when Anne isn't around (such as when Captain Wentworth is talking to his sister), most of the time we find out about events only when Anne finds out.

However, the Book of Persuasion has left me totally surprised because it is a book which has fulfilled all my readers' expectations and I have been totally satisfied reading it. It gave me great pleasure when Anne found out the captain would not marry her sister's sister-in-law and when she realized that he still loved her because from the beginning of the story she expressed her love for him. Persuasion is the only Jane Austen novel that can be said to be basically a love story.

#2: The book of persuasion is the only one in which the narrative interest focuses on the feelings and interiority of the protagonist. It is also that it is the last Austenian chronicle of the triumph of love, kindness and intelligence in a social environment dominated by vanity, pride and selfishness.

#3: Persuasion is a novel about second chances at love.
