People and countries trade globally because different areas of the world have accesses to contrasting items. The value per product matters for example, if I were to have too many apples and my friend had to many bananas, I am sick of apples and need another necessary item that can come through my friend. It's overall off of value and how much you want/need a product over another. It may come across as an unfair scenario but to each person/country, they believe it is useful so it balances out.

People trade when they want something else that they do not have. So they trade what they do have for what they want from someone else. Different people value different things so if one person has a lot of something they do not find valuable they might give it to someone who does not have that for something they do not find valuable.

people trade because not every resource is available in every country, so countries that maybe don't produce enough oil would maybe trade with the U.S, cause we produce a lot.
Or maybe a farmer who produces livestock and a farmer who produces plants and vegetables would set up a trade deal cause they want to eat or sell different things sometimes.

They would trade so they each get the item they desire - that would be a pretty fair scenario for a trade. When people trade, they try to do it for their own profit, i.e. possibly receive a better deal that the opposition So they are still gaining instead of a simple equal exchange.
