The father in the story was clearly very loving to his 16 month old daughter. In the poem, the father kept worrying about unrealistic events, but he was definitely still somewhat afraid of those events actually occurring. I thought the father was overthinking because it was actually just a storm that was causing the father to think 'what if' and in reality it was not as bad as the fathers thoughts.

The poem was quite short but it definitely sent some sort of message that I'm not sure I'm interpreting correctly. I liked the poem although, and it definitely gives an effect where you don't need to be too concerned about others and just do what you enjoy.

This poem is one of my favourites. It shows how useless poems are, but also why everyone still reads and writes them. The poem was very meaningful and is a refreshing poem for once as it actually announces the negatives and positives of poems.

I interpret the poem as a description of how the Great Wall of China is massive and really astonishing, yet how terrifying it is. This really goes with anything that is big in size, it always has some sort of terrifying reality to it. Just like the great wall, it gets many tourists but it separates 2 parts of China and isolates both sides from the other as the poem says, 'And how could it block out

A billion people

Whose thoughts are freer than the wind?

Whose will is more entrenched than the earth?

Whose wishes are more infinite than time?'. It also compares the great wall to other measly walls as read 'How tall is this wall?

How thick is it?

How long is it?

Even if it were taller, thicker and longer

It couldn’t be as tall, as thick and as long

As China’s Great Wall'. The author has some Chinese background and I think she might also be informing people about the Great Wall of China.

This poem was somewhat confusing to understand, but I will express what I think the message is. The author is expressing how the stick insect is gross and scary yet small and fragile. It also uses an example of a metaphor in the last stanza saying 'By its fixedness, this bundle

Of hungry sticks.'. The poem really only varies from describing the baby stick insects negative features and positive features. Only for that, this poem was quite boring to read, but I enjoyed the language being used.

The poem really helped me have an insight into an Indian with a learning disability and how the rest of the world sees him as. I think the way he uses the X in the title is meant to mean that he might have something different with his X chromosomes. Some of the characteristics listed were not just about the learning disability, but about him being Indian. This also suggests that just being Indian is already getting him bullied and misunderstood. However all these problems with learning also means that he is really insightful and also good at other things. This is seen throughout numerous categories of his problems. This poem gave me a good insight of an Indian with a learning disability.

I don't fully understand this poems story, but I can understand that they are hiding from a horrifying riot as said in the title. The reason I say it is horrifying is because of the emotional language used by the author to really depict what terror is happening. The intensity and the duration of the riot really makes the poem have this intensity to it. The poem also says 'We kept our distance and let it grow

in disbelief.', the language used just then makes the riot seem extremely realistic as the riot grew in 'disbelief'.

This was one of the poems more on the sad side, most of the time sad poems are usually about love but this poem was about the guilt when someone dies. The poem also talks about how frequently someone is feeling this guilt with some repetition of 'Who next will suffer this dreadful stain?'. The author also depicts all the different types of scenarios which in this case made it really unsettling of the ways people feel guilt after a loved ones death.

I am interpreting that in this poem the bees are representing a couple, and the yellow rose is a bed. The language used suggests that the bees might be getting intimate. The language such as 'Does his touch please or scratch?

When he’s done his honey–thieving

at her matrix, whirs free, leaving,

she closes, still tall, chill,

unrumpled on her stem.'. I also think that the title 'A COUPLE' suggests that this is usually what a loving relationship should look like.
