       The prisoners first encounters with the staff were not always formative or pleasant,'staff had limited engagement with new arrivals, and assessment processes focused on processing them rather than identifying vulnerabilities'. (HMCIOP, 2017, pg11 S3)
This could of contributed to the increase in the amount of inmates self-harming.

 ]]> 2017-11-06 15:29:50 UTC https://padlet.com/delgreco97/ft94rp800ope/wish/203933186 delgreco97 https://padlet.com/delgreco97/ft94rp800ope/wish/203933447 Younger offenders are encouraged to get involved in stimulating activities or work placements which can help them have purpose.  The institute does not have a successfully regime or  routine in place for inmates, ' The prison should operate a predictable and equitable regime that allows all prisoners to attend purposeful activity regularly and provides a reasonable amount of time out of cell' (HMCIOP, 2017, pg65) As a result inmates spend long unproductive hours in their cells. 
       In the 2015 inspection it was advised that inmates had more outdoor interactions, 'Prisoners should receive at least one hour's exercise in the open air every day'  (HMCIOP, 2017,pg65) However this was 'not achieved'  this could of been another factor which added to their boredom and amplified their loneliness. Which could of also added to the increase in individuals self- harming, 'There had been 255 incidents of self-harm in the previous six months. This was much higher than the 180 cases we found during a similar period at the last inspection' (HMCIOP, 2017, pg21)

Although when the 2017 inspection was carried out no progression had made , 'All health and prison staff should have up-to-date basic life support skills, including use of an emergency defibrillator' (HMCIOP, 2017, pg64)

Many cells had large amounts of offensive graffiti and inadequately screened toilets. Some showers were in very poor condition and many prisoners had restricted access to them'(HMCIOP, 2017, pg13 S14) This breeches inmates human rights, they should be able to access well functioning showers in a clean and sanitary environment.

       Many individuals  did not feel that their offender supervisor was providing them with enough information or helping them achieve their sentence plans, 'only 17% of prisoners said their offender supervisors were working with them to achieve sentence plan targets' (HMCIOP, 2017, pg15 S33)
Additionally, not one of the recommendations for resettlement had been put in place, 'At this follow-up inspection we found that none of the recommendations had been achieved'  (HMCIOP, 2017, pg15 S32) This is an indication that offender supervisors did not have enough resources or time, to ensure all inmates could integrate back into society.
