Repetition is important in music, sounds and sequences often will be repeated continuously throughout a musical piece. In the song found in Ratliff's playlist "Ain't That Funky Now", utilizes repetition by incorporating exclamations to grab the attention of the audience. The drummer had a repetitive rhythm throughout the song while James Brown in the song kept reciting repetitive phrases. I agree with Ratliff's statement that repetition is an important musical element across all kinds of music. As for my musical example outside of Ratliff's playlist would be "i" by Kendrick Lamar there was repetition also used within the musical piece. It adds the element of an old school vibe from the Isley Brothers 1964 instrumental sample. The combination of the organic rock instrumentals with the rapper's story-telling abilities of struggle on a street level.
