1756-1763: The French & Indian War

The French and the British fight over land. Britain wins due to their spending and the land was given to the natives but the colonists were charged higher taxes for the expenses of the war. The final decision of this law may have shown the colonists that the British don't care what is right, they just wanted to get it over with.

1763: Pontiac's War

The war was started because Britain made a new person a military commander but that person raised the price goods traded to them, and the Indians found a leader in Pontiac which is where the war started. After a while the French signed a peace treaty and they couldn't help the Indians fight anymore so people started to stop fighting in the war.

1764: Sugar Act

The British put a tax on molasses, but then the colonists resented the tax and it was repealed soon after in 1766. This act showed the colonists that the British government could just increase taxes for whatever reason.

1765-1766: The Stamp Act

The British made you pay tax for every piece of paper you used. When the colonists found out about the act, They attacked the tax collectors and because of the backlash the act was repealed in 1766. The first of many rebellions from the colonists

1773: Boston Tea Party

On one of the cargo ships holding tea, colonists tried to get the ship to leave but it stayed so at night they dumped out all of the tea on the ship. This shows that the colonists were ready to rebel if the British government wanted to keep taxing them.

1775: Battle of Lexington and Concord

The war was between two groups, the patriots who were the colonists, and the loyalists which were the British

1773: Tea Act

The British started to tax more on tea, so then the colonists started to boycott. There was an outrage due to the popularity of tea, this tax soon lead to the Boston tea party

1763: Proclamation of 1763

The British restricted the movement of the colonists and it made people have to leave their homes. The British wanted the colonists to know that had control.

1767: The Townshend Act

The British started putting a tax on a ton of things and the act allowed British soldiers to check homes, the outrageous act later caused boycotts and protests so it was repealed in 1770. The British government repealing laws may have shown that the colonists could do something about the recent tax increases

1770: Boston Massacre

With all of the acts there were protests, British guards shot into a crowd of protesters and 5 people died. This shows the lengths that the British government was going to go to keep control.

1774: Intolerable Acts

They were four rules set after the Boston tea party, they were The Boston Port Act, The Massachusetts Government Act, The Administration of Justice Act and The Quartering Act. The British government wanted to show that they had control, but this was the tipping point for the colonists

1767: Sons and daughters of liberty

The colonists were groups formed by American colonists to resist British taxation and control. At this point in time they were tired of being under British rule.

1774: First Continental Congress

It was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the thirteen American colonies, it was held in Philadelphia in response to Britain's punitive Intolerable Acts.
