Beautifully written. Dusti Bowling's sentences just sing. Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus will stay with you, as the characters are memorable. I loved Aven, a strong, spunky girl with a great sense of humor, and plenty of empathy and understanding of others. An adopted child born without arms, yet Aven is a problem-solver. She befriends classmates Connor, a boy with Tourette's syndrome and Zion an overweight boy and together they have a mystery to solve. The book radiates positive messages of friendship, acceptance of differences, and can-do-it attitude.
