In the "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" episode, the Ashley Too doll serves as a replica of the real Ashley O, a pop star who has been exploited by her controlling aunt and manager. The doll is designed to embody Ashley O's personality, voice, and image, creating a virtual companion that fans can interact with.

The episode shows broader societal issues like the power dynamics in the entertainment industry, the commodification of human experience, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals and creators.

These are all replaced by the AI-technology, and that makes a new type of copyright infringement.

The episode uses technology as something with a symbolic presence. It’s use is to reflect the scenarios of which real celebrities are subject to. A great example of this, is the bed she is locked in to. This symbolizes the feeling of entrapment, and the contract that celebrities are locked into during parts of their career. Their need to survey Ashley’s every move, rummaging through her stuff and search her room, comments on pop culture’s need to create “the perfect brand”. This is very reminiscent of Miley Cyrus’ real situation, who is the actor that plays Ashley. After her “life” as Hannah Montana. In the real world celebrities are also watched 24/7 and therefor they need to perform every hour of their life. This is also represented in the episode where Ashley is never left alone. Even her brainwaves are monitored in order to create supply equivalent to the demand.

Af tupias go askar

Question: How does the episode depict the potential consequences of advanced technology on human relationships, particularly in regards to the way that Catherine uses technology to manipulate and control those around her?

Text:
Technologies in the episode:
Mind reader: It allows Catherine to take advantage of Ashley even though she is in a chemically induced coma. That way she can use her, without Ashley being able to do anything about it.
Hologram: It allows Catherine to stream live preformances anywhere at any time. and with the streaming services nowadays it is the most lucrative $$$ part of the music industry.
Ashley Too: I allows the fans to engange with something that has a simular personality to the presented version of Ashley O, so the fans still have some sort of connection.
All in all, Catherine makes STONKS!

Perry the Platypus!

While Ashley O is in a coma, they develop an AI system to extract the music she is composing in her brain. They can then modify it or salvage parts of the text e.g., they extract a rage dream but then they salvage some parts of it and change the pitch to make it into a positive pop song in the signature style of Ashley O. This means that the Ashley no longer has any influence over what is published under her name.

The role Rachel plays in “Rachel, Jack and Ashley too” is the savior, she is the sister of Jack, and their father makes “humane” mouse traps. She is obsessed with Ashley O which makes doing some weird choices. For example, she participates in the school talent show wearing Ashley O clothing and makeup. While it’s her turn to show off her talent, she messes up and cry. So, Ashley O changes her personality probably in a negative way because she gets parasocial. Which means she stops connecting with other people instead she puts all her energy in following Ashley O. Especially after she gets her Ashley too doll, which only makes it worse. For even before she got the doll, she didn’t really have any friends. Which Jack sees and tries to prevent. But in the end, it turns out that she is the reason that they can save Ashley O.

| 6: How does the episode explore the idea of artificial intelligence, and what are some of the ethical questions raised by the use of intelligent machines like the Ashley Too hologram?

The artificial intelligence is framed as an individual person who just happens to be a lot like the pop star. It becomes a reoccurring theme that it must prove both sentience and sapiens to other people with other people considering “it?” just a stupid toy. AI or the ability to create intelligence is not considered a world changing thing in this story, it just happens and people go with it. We see that Ashley too can feel pain, and that she is one of the most empathic people in the story, despite not being a human. It also raises the question that if people turn her of, is it violence? Is it murder to throw her out? Is people’s memories and personality their own? Can it be bought and sold? Is it unethical to copy someone’s mind and what sort of thing should be done to prevent it?

1: “What is the significance of the Ashley Too doll and its relationship to the real Ashley O?”

The doll is a copy of her consciousness, but with a limiter to make it behave better and be child friendly. The Ashley-2 also knew that the real Ashley didn’t want to live so she pulled the plug this goes to show that they think alike because the real Ashley said that she would rather die than lay there. This also shows that the robot can think by itself and think what is the best choice here. It knew what the real Ashley would prefer. But when this limiter is removed it a copy of the real Ashley’s real mind. In the car they real Ashley realize after disbelief that the Ashley-2 is a copy of her mind and everything that is attached to it. The fact that the robot also knew based on what it knew about Rachel to not tell her what her real plan was. She kept it a secret since she wanted to save Ashley. Therefor the relationship between the real Ashley and the robot shows how easy it is to replace human relationships with artificial intelligence

In the episode the technology is an important factor and has a big impact on what happens during the time Ashley is in coma. Ashley ends up in coma when her aunt drugs her, by hiding “medicine” in her food. The record label and her aunt then uses Artificial Intelligence to follow Ashley’s dreams, and create music from it. Ashley’s career even when she is in coma. Not all of her dreams are positive, however the record label manipulates with her dreams and creates music from it. The AI is for example able to change the pitch of a song.

The music from her dreams during coma are very different, compared to the music she made when she was awake. Therefore it’s possible that Ashley was being controlled regarding her music from the beginning.
