This PBS learning media model covers a multitude of topics on global awareness. It teaches young students about people's rights, conversation and education.

A way this could be implemented into a lesson is a multi tiered social studies lesson of exposing students to the world around them. Students of the United States could understand how the world around them differs from where they live. Students could explore the topics on their own or in a class discussion setting. Students could answer questions based upon how they felt about what they watched or read. The use of documents, videos, and recordings provide a multitude of different perspectives of the African American culture.

This can be used as an extension into Black History month for social studies as well as an expansion part of slavery, and the civil rights movements. Teachers can use these different resources in order to help explain the African American struggle of slavery, and civil rights. This podcast provides inspirational stories about international women figures. It shows how women have changed the world around them even with the hardships the world has shown them.

This lesson can also be turned into a social studies lesson around the lives of women in different countries. Students can listen to the different podcast about these figures and see and understand about how different each woman had it, and how they overcame the struggle that the world faced them with. Students can develop the global standpoint of what it is like to overcome as a woman. These women figures can be important in expanding a global worldview. Circle Round is a podcast about different folktales around the world. The narration is provided by big names and has different stories from a multitude of countries.

This can be turned into a lesson on how different stories are told through different countries. An example of this could be the story of the tortoise and the hare. In Circle Round there is a Panamanian story that is told differently. It is the same type of story but different characters, and probably told from a different animal perspective. Students could use these stories and compare it to folktales either from America or their own cultures at home. It allows students to show how stories can be views as the same but different in multiple ways. This can be turned into a multitude of ways. Students can use these resources to relate to their own home life and see the similarities or differences between themselves and the culture that they are viewing. Students can also take these lessons home and teach their own household about what they see. This resource also encourages students to be good global citizens in the class and to be respectful towards other cultures.
