News on the internet always has its pros and cons. Some advantages could be: news on the internet can be accessed at any time and quickly available, there is a wide selection of sources on the internet, the variety of topics is enormous. You will find a blog or a website to almost every topic. Some disadvantages can be for example that the seriousness is missing. It cannot be guaranteed that the information is correct. Another disadvantages can be that due to the many sources you can no longer filter out which information is now relevant to you and which is not. Many people also have problems reading the small front on the small display. Among other things, if you rely only on digital media and you don’t have internet, it can be a problem that you can’t read the news.

The news needs to become more user friendly for older people, topics that are current and also interesting. In my opinion, not write something about the Corona Virus on every front page at the moment. Everybody knows by now that this virus exists and it`s getting really annoying to read about it every day. News should become more serious for all users by coming across more credible or not exaggerating some news services (BILD.de).

The Internet gives as always the opportunity to look up some news.It just brings a lot of positive and negative things with it. A advantage could be that we can always search for news at any time and even if we are busy because of work or something else that we dont have time to watch them at home we can use our phone or tablet. Also a good thing is that there are a lot of Internet websites with differnet pictures or different content but the news are the same the main point is explained in the same way. On the one hand you might think that this is it but one the other hand we know that looking for news on the internet has also disadvateges. One negative thing is that you dont know if everything is true or not. A lot of news which are posted do not tell us always the truth but we cant tell which internet side does and which dont. Some internet sides cant get any attention without a litte bit of Fake news. A other Bad thing is that not everyone can search for news on the Internet because of low or no Internet at all. Older people dont even know how to really use a Smartphone oder Tablet to look in the internet for news its easier for them on the television. The news are not always easy to read because you might get annoying advertisments like pictures or short videos.

Getting news from the internet can be good and bad. An advantage is that people can easily check out news anytime and that they get them immediately, that when something important happens, they don‘t have to wait until the news on the television starts. They also have more tangibility on serious topics, like the corona-virus. There are plenty of apps that show us how many people are infected and died and how worse it is. People can easily get informed about anything. But of course there are also disadvantages, for example fake news. Fake news are not real informations they just cause drama and fights. That shows that some people who cause fake news don‘t take it serious. Also through all the news you don‘t know which is real or not or what is importand or insignificant.

The news should become more professional.

That only people with right informations can share it on the internet. Like that the news on the internet are staying professional and are not getting mixed with fake news. That will reduce dispute.

To get news from the internet has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. A big advantage to get the news from internet, is that you can get a lot of news through internet everywhere and everytime. It is really very convenient. An another advantage is that you can be informed about everything immediately. For example through the first Lockdown in Germany a lot of german tourists were Abroad for vacation or work. Germany informed the people that they will close the borders and no longer let anyone in because of the pandemic. In that case the tourists were informed beforehand and could quickly return to Germany. For celebrities are news on internet a big advantage too. They can really became more famous through the news that magazines spread about them. So they get more attention. Nevertheless it has a lot of disadvantages too. Whether the news are always true one doubts. The biggest disadvantage is that a lot of these news can be fake too. A lot of magazines or portals in internet use a lot of fake news to get more views. People can be misinformed and believe this. It can worry them. Many do not understand much about the digital world and can not recognise which Website is more serious and which not. What the internet world do not think is that they can destroy someone emotionally. A lot of people can be influenced by the news that are maybe sometime not true. Anyway to make the media better qualified in Germany i think that first of all the state itself is responsible for this. They should arrange more people that controls and verify the news on the internet. If they have not been verified beforehand, they should not be published. There should be specialized IT specialists who install such a system on the internet, which can verify the news before it is published.

News from the internet can have both advantages and disadvantages.

One good thing is that people can easily inform themselves. They just have to type a subject on google and they will instantly find several articles. The downside to this point is that there are many fake articles. You can’t really separate real from fake. If there is an article with fake news, people might believe this and spread it around. That's how rumors get started. Of course, these sites use several strategies to seek the reader's attention, such as exploiting current issues. Current example: Corona. Since Corona is current and all media talk about it, it is not difficult for anyone to smuggle a few lies under it. There are also celebrities that benefit from the news. If they get into a scandal, published a new song or a movie, etc. they easily get attention if it’s mentioned in a news portal. A disadvantage in that point is that when celebrities get into a scandal, it might end their career. The internet never forgets.

In order to bring this under control, people would have to inform themselves about which sites are reputable and which not. There also could be people or IT's that are specialized in finding fake articles and report or block them.

News is very important, it influences our personal opinion and also keeps us updated from certain events.Nowadays many people obtain news from the internet especially the new generation. In the near future this will continue to be the case that almost everyone will obtain their news from the internet. There will be less people who will still read news from a newspaper. Therefore we should think about the advantages and disadvantages of getting news from the internet.

The internet offers a great alternative to get news faster. One advantage of using social media sources for news and information is that you can receive news almost immediately after the event happens for e.g without having to wait to see the news on TV or in print. Moreover, social media makes it easy for us to access information in the way you choose. Since various opinions are expressed on social media, its users can witness news and information from different angles but the advantage can also turn to a disadvantage because many writers are working unprofessionally that means that a lot of writers do not research detailed enough to form an opinion which may could cause a conflict between different population groups. It could also lead to manipulate the opinion of others.People would also start to struggle to differentiate rather the news is true or false because of the amount of news.

So, What could be done to make the media better quality and What can we do to avoid these problems?

From my point of you people should start to analyse the meaning of the news they read for instance they should ask themselves questions like: What does the author/writer want to achieve with this information? Does he want to spread awareness or does he spread negativity? .These points are relevant when it comes to forming an opinion. You shouldn’t believe in every news you read because it’s not supposed to tell the truth. Therefore i think the news should need to avoid unserious contributions because people could start to believe in it or otherwise people would no longer read from the source because of the uselessness.

Özgenur D.

Getting News from the Internet has advantages but also disadvantages. An advantage is that everyone who has an internet connection has access to news that are on the internet. Another advantage is that the younger generations can also look what the news are, because they use the internet more often than adults. But there are also disadvantages like news sites often advertize their site so much to the point where its just annoying. Another disadvantage would be that many websites who provide news are not trustworthy. Something that could make media news a better quality is no advertising on news. Mohamed T.

10th February 2021

by Max

Abel62, I have just come across your blog post and have read a little bit about the advantages and disadvantages of people getting the news from the internet and the media quality in Germany. I understand your questions because many of us, spending lots of time at the phone or computer while receiving news over news without mention it.

Well, you know how important news are especially due the coronavirus these days, but in any kind of scenario you always want to make sure that the news you receive are real and safe, not fake! Getting the media from the internet has lots of advantages, but besides that there are also some disadvantages. To start off with the advantages I can tell you that there was never a faster and more efficient way to receive media and news when you get it from a safe source! There were lots of fake news spread in the world wide web. But besides that, you can reach large audiences and drive traffic to something you want to share. Like I said the disadvantages can not only be fake news, but there is also more for example, when you reach out to the people and start driving traffic you always open up the potential for embarrassment.

Now coming to your second question about what we can do to make the media quality in Germany better, I can say that trough a lot of research I found out that a lot of sources try to effect the readers with overacted headlines so that they start looking at the headline and think “what happened there” and while reading they realize that there is no such bad thing like the headline told.

I hope I helped you out with my answers and I am looking forward to some feedback.

14th February 2021

By Manuel

Getting the news from the internet does bring advantages with it, one of em is that it‘s completely for free. You don’t have to pay for it. And the news on the internet are always up to date. Whenever something happens, it immediately hits the news. You don’t have to wait till the next day which is not the case with newspapers. You also have more choices and control over the topics you want to be informed about and it‘s still for free. If you want to get news about football, you will most likely have to pay for a sports magazine so you gotta pay for the newspaper and the magazine in addition. But of course getting the news from the internet also brings some disadvantages with it like the danger of fake news spreading. News spread way quicker which presents a problem in this case. Also the sources are not always reliable so you can‘t believe everything you see on the internet. Another issue might be that you need internet access to get the news and not everybody does have internet access when they‘re outside. So getting the news from the internet does bring some advantages and disadvantages with it.

I think to make the media quality better in Germany they should stop making the headlines be more appealing that the news itself so the reader doesn‘t feel lied to or fooled.

Getting news from the internet has many advantages, but also disadvantages. At first the advantages are, that we can read news faster than in newspapers because new information is getting shared very fast. It is also good for the nature because it is saving paper. We also don’t have to pay for news on the internet and they are getting updatet several times a day. This might sound very good at first but getting information on the internet also has disadvantages. The financial development of newspaper publishers ist dropping drastically. News on the internet also have no standarts which means that everyone can publish news. We can’t trust everyone because fake news are spreading on the internet. People might publish news just for fun that aren’t real.

To get a better media quality it is important to check the source because fake news often come from fake websites. We should also question everything and check if the sites have many ads. We should ask ourselves „What is the author’s background?“. All in all we have to decide for ourselves on what we believe.

Getting your news from the internet, as all things, comes with its pros and cons. Positive aspects could be the better accessibility of the medium, through the internet you can, provided that you have an internet connection, access every site you wish. Especially with the news this allows you to access your local newspaper even when you´re travelling abroad. Many newspaper sites also maintain archives of old articles, so you could look for a newspaper from say, 5 years ago or search for a specific event. Another positive point would be that you can easily review various standpoints on topics, the internet is littered with opinions on everything.

Getting your news from the internet also has an environmental aspect. When you solely get news from the internet, you don’t need a printed version of the articles, cutting down on paper usage for that sector.

Online news don’t come without cons however. Due to the nature of the internet, there can be very little quality control on certain news sites, especially when they don’t have a large company behind them. Anyone can upload something. That leads to another negative aspect, the difficulty of checking sources for authenticity and credibility. Especially with political topics, there is a lot of bias, since most people have an opinion on these topics, that will reflect how each topic is depicted in the news article.

On sites like Facebook or Twitter the content algorithm only shows you things that you agree with or that fit your views, trapping you in a bubble of things that appeal to you specifically without showing other points of view.

Another negative aspect is that, due to less demand for printed newspapers, the industry behind and around will suffer, but at this point I think its death is inevitable.

What can be done to make media better in Germany?

I think a good starting point for improving the quality of media would be to leave political opinions out of reporting news. Many news agencies do have a political opinion, which can be seen in their reporting. This might skew the events and spread misinformation or a wrong sense of the current events. News reporting should be as unbiased as possible.
For example, with the behaviour of news agencies in regards to events involving Trump, you were able to very clearly see which agency was aligned with democrats and which with the republicans.

Selinay Cicek
In the time of social media and smartphones a lot of people obtain informations from the intenet. But how good or bad is this?
One advantage for sure is that news in the internet can reach you faster. For example the shooting in Vienna in November 2020.
The video went viral and people got warned to stay at home, before the news aired on TV.
This probably saved lifes.
On the orther hand fake news is a huge disadvantage. With only a phone everyone can become a journalist and spread wrong information intentionally or unintentionally.
And the worst part about this is that users can not distinguish the truth from a lie, because it looks so professional.
This does not refer to reputable online-newspapers or TV-news (in the most cases).

And also the most people enjoy online (or virtual) news more than just radio or newspaper/magazines. The higher entertainment value of online newspapers and magazines results from the multimedia capabilities of the system (the integration of animation, film and sound).
Furthermore you can adapt the news to yourself. You can look up the kind of news you want and what topics you are interested in. You can also repeat the news as many times as you want, which is not possible with TV or radio. In additon newspapers, magazines and any kind of printed font is bad for the environment, because of the huge paper consumption.

Another disadvantage is that you need internet access and the required devices. Furthermore you have to learn how to deal with it. Especial older people have problems with technology, that's why they stay with news in printed form.

More and more people switch from newspapers to the internet, the internet is taking over more and more parts of our all day life. While in 2006 the germans bought 21 million newspapes a day in average the number fell to 14,1 million newspapers in 2018. I personally think that the internet is not bad as long as you obtain your daily dose of news on reputable sites. It offers you so much more possiblities than radio, TV, magazines etc. But it's also not bad to read a newspaper. Everyone is different. There are people who prefer to check the news on the phone on the way to work and others who like to sit on the breakfast table and read the newspaper, like their fathers did. In conclusion I just can say that especially in social media and the internet are lot of fake news, so never believe everything you read and make your own opinion.
