Hi! My name is Jhanzeen Friedrich A. Alcebar, a second-year student at MMCM with a major in BS Psychology. I love the Philippine pop culture and indulging in different fields of our media and entertainment, particularly those which highlight the Filipino creativity and identity. OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is one of my top favorite fields of Philippine pop culture, in which I appreciate listening to groups like Sugarcane, The Ridleys, and Over October. I also enjoy viewing Filipino movies and shows, particularly those that deal with social issues and capture Filipino values. Another area of pop culture that I enjoy is TikTok trends since trending challenges, dance moves, and memes continually frame our online culture. Street food culture also intrigues me because of its profound link to our everyday lives, with trending foods such as isaw and kwek-kwek becoming a part of many communities' daily life. Finally, I admire how older Filipino celebrations like Kadayawan and Sinugba still reign strong with adaptations from modern life, thus enthralling today's younger population.

For this Padlet, I want to bring attention to P-pop (Pinoy Pop) and particularly the rise of groups SB19, BINI, and BGYO. P-pop is a new music genre that pulls from K-pop but has an original Filipino touch in language, topic, and context. These groups have been appreciated overseas, proving that Filipino artists are competitive internationally but stay true to their background. Through effective performances, introspective lyrics, and strong connection with the audience, P-pop is no longer just a music fad, but a cultural phenomenon. It continues to inspire new generations of Filipino youth by projecting local music and national pride. It also provides a platform for promoting Filipino talents in the entertainment sphere, as a means of challenging the global dominance of Philippine music.

Following Uses and Gratifications Theory, individuals seek actively media to fulfill their individual requirements, including entertainment, identity creation, and social interaction. P-pop is not only music to many young Filipinos but also a source of belongingness. Fans interact intensely with their beloved groups via social media, fan clubs, and live shows, creating intimate communities that hail Filipino talent. The genre is also an emotional release, with songs expressing love, strength, and self-expression. These aspects drive the popularity of P-pop, making it a powerful force in shaping youth culture and social relationships.

Aside from entertainment, P-pop also affects the Philippine music industry and breaks norms. The emergence of these groups has spurred greater production quality, more innovative storytelling, and a greater global presence for Filipino music. With Filipino artists topping global charts, the genre demonstrates that local music can compete with global hits, encouraging greater investment in homegrown talent. As P-pop expands, it redefines Filipinos' perception of their own entertainment industry, creating national pride and cultural consciousness. By fusing contemporary influences with traditional Filipino values, P-pop is a strong embodiment of modern Philippine pop culture.
