National Providers - Task 1

One form of provider of sports development is national providers. Providers can be people like sport England. These providers are made up of a committee, and they generally can give out funding for people looking to do sports either in school or clubs. This will be done by the committee generally giving out what they feel is sufficient for their needs. National providers are generally government funded and they distribute the money throughout the country, through the form of applications from people wanting funding.

Governing Bodies - Task 1

The next provider down would be Governing Bodies. These are organisations like the FA in football, who set clubs up and hire coaches to go out and give free sessions to kids in order to try and get them involved in sport. The FA is generally structured as a committee, and people who work high up in the FA will vote on changes to make and clubs to set up. These types of NGB's will also lay out their aims and objectives throughout the year. For example the FA have the aim to make the game fun and enjoyable for people of all ages abnd abilities. They do this through non-competitive football up until the age of 12.

Voluntary Organisation(s) - Task 1

These are the most common types of organisations when talking about sports development. They are just your general grass root clubs, and are run entirely by volunteers. They are structured so that they have a committee, and they will decide where to put any funding, and what they can do to improve the experience of people joining the club. They can also apply for funding from national providers, and also work closely with the governing body for that sport in order to comply with their aims and objectives. Generally, voluntary organisations aim to provide a fun, safe and friendly environment for people to play sport in.

Measure of Quality - Task 2/3

Generally, organisations will look to ensure that what they are doing is to a high standard, and to do this, they would generally seek help from external organisations to help measure quality. One organisation that measures quality would be Club Mark. They are sport englands national accreditation scheme for high quality community sports clubs and stands for higher standards of welfare, equality, coaching and management. They will ensure that what clubs are doing is up to date and as good if not better than other clubs, and meets the aims and objectives of NGB's and the government. Because it is internal, it is cheap to do, however they would have to pay people to go to clubs if someone approaches them asking for quality checks. The way they do this is very effective as they do not need to go to anyone externally, and can easily manage it and the cost would be low. However, they would just assess people through a sort of clip board and paper, and people wouldnt be aware of what they were doing as such, therefore this may affect their business.

TAES - Task 2/3

Towards an Excellent Service underpins continuous support, organisations and partnerships to carry out self assessments to plan and implement improvements as a part of service planning. In essence, they work with clubs to assess the quality of their club internally, and ensuring that they know how to plan improvements if needed. Again, this would improve standards of work, however it would cost a lot as it is an external provider. The way they measure quality is fantastic, as they effectively train members from the club to assess the quality of the club. One of the strengths would be that they work directly with the club so that the club understand what is going on, and the club are able to assess themselves to an extent, therefore they could prepare for an assessment if they had one. The only problem would be that they may cost a fair bit as they are effectively training your staff. This may have an impact on TAES as people may look elsewhere if they cannot afford it, however their reputation would be good if they did a good job measuring quality.

This is a national quality system that can be used for assessing the management of sports development schemes. They do this by assessing the sports development providers, and give them feedback on how they have done, and how they can improve. This is a good scheme to do as they can improve management within sport development providers, however, it would again cost as they are an external provider.

This would improve the overall awareness of the workshops, and it would get more people involved in sport.
They could also look to improve the marketing of the school games, as it is only really promoted in Sainsburys, and therefore only people who shop there regularly would be aware of it. They could look to target social media a lot more, and that would improve publicity without a doubt, and add more awareness to this already great initiative.

FA Skills - Task 4/5

The FA Skills workshop is a great initiative as it is a fun way to get kids involved in football. It is cheap for people to go to, however it will cost the FA a lot of money to fund the coaches and equipment for the scheme. This then means that that money will not be available to grass root teams, however, the FA Skills workshop may get more people involved with local footballs teams which would benefit all parties massively, as the kids would be playing sport and keeping active. The FA will have achieved their goal of making kids more active, and it would boost numbers and reputations for local football teams. It could also partly benefit national football as there may be some future pro footballers in the making. The FA skills workshop could train more coaches to deliver similar programmes inside football clubs, instead of stretching the small amount of coaches that the FA currently has. They could do this through a mentoring programme, in order to improve the standard of the workshop and coaching in general. The only improvement they could do would be to run more sessions throughout schools and clubs, and this could easily be achieved by training more coaches.
