"It meant that Kino would drive his strength against a mountain and plunge his strength against the sea. Juana, in her woman's soul, knew that the mountain would stand while the man broke himself; that the sea would surge while the man drowned in it. And yet it was this thing that made him a man, half insane and half god, and Juana had need of a man; she could not live without a man." This showed that Kino turned from someone who wants money out of the pearl into someone who hated it.
★Juana - Kino's young wife. 
¨Now the tension which had been growing in Juana boiled up to the surface and her lips were thin. “This thing is evil,” she cried harshly. “This pearl is like a sin! It will destroy us,” and her voice rose shrilly. “Throw it away, Kino. Let us break it between stones. Let us bury it and forget the place. Let us throw it back into the sea. It has brought evil, Kino, my husband, it will destroy us.” And in the firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her fear.¨ This shows how she turns from an obedient and kind woman to a demanding person.¨

★Rising action- A scorpion stings Coyotito; Kino discovers a great pearl; Kino's attempts to sell the pearl are unsuccessful, and he is mysteriously attacked; Kino beats Juana for attempting to discard the pearl.

★Climax- When Coyotito dies, and when Kino kills the men.

★Falling Action: When Kino kills all the trackers

★Resolution- When Juana and Kino throw away the evil pearl.

★Situational-"You have heard of fool's gold," the dealer said. "This pearl is like fool's gold. It is too large." This was unexpected because, the whole town believed that it was "The Pearl of the World".

★Canoe- The canoe symbolizes a tradition that has been passed down through ancestors. This canoe was given to him by his grandfather. This was his most important object that he owned before the pearl.
