How It Works

• The program uses a one-to-one tutoring method, where students work through short, daily exercises with a teacher, parent, or tutor.

• It focuses on decoding words rather than guessing or relying on context, helping students develop strong foundational reading skills.

• Progress is measured in small, achievable steps, ensuring students build confidence and experience success regularly.

At school, we use Toe by Toe to provide extra reading support, ensuring that every student has the tools they need to succeed. 

• Reading – Pupils read all about two very different days out; one to a theme park and the other to a regular park. The reading activity challenged pupils to highlight differences and similarities between both day trips. 

• Writing – Pupils were challenged to write at least 80 words all about their favourite place to visit in Scotland.

• Listening – Pupils spent time watching and listening to a clip all about wild camping. They then had comprehension activities to complete on the topic.

• Talking – Pupils created engaging talks that outlined what their favourite day in Scotland would look like.

The Relax Kids approach uses a unique combination of seven simple steps—Move, Play, Stretch, Feel, Breathe, Believe, and Relax—to help children feel calmer, more focused, and better equipped to manage their emotions. Through movement, games, breathing exercises, affirmations, and guided relaxation, children learn lifelong skills for self-regulation and resilience.

This gentle, child-friendly programme will take place during the school day and aims to support emotional development, boost confidence, and promote a sense of inner calm and wellbeing.
