Textual evidence to support this action is stated by Tertius, " It is I who have been in fault; I ought to have seen that I could not afford to live this way."
- Another action taken by Lydgate was deciding not to leave Middlemarch despite Rosamond's arguments. He states, "But we are not going to leave Middlemarch." This statement supports the idea that above all of his financial struggles his pride is keeping him from running away from the problem. 
-Furthermore, Lydgate made deal with a man Dover. He is seeking alternatives to survive through this financial struggle. As it is stated, "Dover says he will take a good deal of the plate back again, and any of the jewelry we like. He really behaves very well." In this quote Tertius seems to feel quite irritated. He thinks that Rosamond is spoiled and only thinks of what she wants. Tertius thinks that it is not okay for Rosamond to nearly want to cry all because she isn't getting her way. Rosamond is acting completely unacceptable and in a way like a child. However Tertius is in a dead end, he knows that he only has one choice, to do as Rosamond wishes. The reason why he has to do as he's told is because "...her tears cut him to the heart." The quotes mentioned above explains the emotions that the characters are currently feeling and the tension on how to resolve issues with money. Rosamond suggest to ask for help from close family or friends. However, Lydgate has pride within himself and does not want to share his hardships with people. The problem he faces is that he is unable to sympathize with other people. He can't imagine himself in their shoes and their point of view on things. Lydgate is more concerned with his views rather than  other people's perspective and is very contemptuous towards people's beliefs and viewpoints. Near the end of middle march Lydgate looks into his past actions and is unhappy with the outcome and where he is.
