“The production of a world of art throws a light upon the mystery of humanity. A work of art is an abstract or epitome of the world. It is the result or expression of nature, in miniature. For although the works of nature are innumerable and all different, the result or the expression of them all is similar and single. Nature is a sea of forms radically alike and even unique.”

The poem by Walt Whitman follows the question of resistance in the form of mass conformity to oblivious ignorance. He suggests that the individual is bound to lose all faith when they realize their singular efforts will never strike drastic change in the greater scope of society. So the individuals, those who have lost all strength in resisting, conform to the likes of the majority against their better judgment. The wise minority surrenders and the hope of any reformation is lost. The film Dead Poets Society demonstrates the drastic decisions of the individual in the face of direct oppression, where Neil finally comprehended the life he was living was not his own, and the only way out was to end it.

It is a universal fear to be forgotten, to be brushed away like any other grain of sand and to wait for the last memories stored in living minds to fade out of existence. The trouble is determining how we ought to be remembered, and how we are to ensure that the world never omits the impression we left behind. If we spend all our years following the path of survival alone, we fail to acknowledge our greater purpose and remain only as echoes of our true selves. To stray from what is laid out for us, diverging from the road taken by those merely blundering their way through life, and deliberately creating a separate path dedicated to our remembrance is what we all must strive to achieve. I wish not for history to remember me as simply another tolerable student or an adequate, averagely content adult. I have always sought to express myself through my artwork, and such is the commemoration I hope will hold for me when I am gone. I want the messages hidden beneath my works to be forever decrypted by fresh minds and for their meanings never to fade. I aspire to be regarded as one of history's great minds, those able to convey their innermost enlightened thoughts through complex color and shape. No living thing is eternal, for we wither away until we perish, forever laid to rest. The impressions we make, however, are timeless. They are infinite in their continuance and everlasting by nature. This is how I wish to be memorialised, not by name or being but by my arts immortal imprint upon the world.
