1. WHAT I KNEW ABOUT SCULPTURE BEFORE TAKING THE MODULE

Before taking up sculpture for class, what I knew about sculpture is that it was usually based on statues that were usually big, life-sized of people, animals and objects that we use on an everyday basis. Always thought that famous people would always be on sculptures showing how the reasons of their popularity, what made their contribution to society to significant. examples like David, Jose Rizal, George Washington, or like Hachiko the Dog. I always thought that marble was the only considered sculpture. And I thought the only thing we have to look at, when it comes to sculpture, was the features of the and how the statue looked like. It was more than just statues and how it looked like.

2.) What I learned in the module about the form of sculpture as a Fine Art

After tackling sculpture for our class I thought sculpture was just to be viewed at and to be seen by the people who appreciate it. I realized that it was more than just looking at the sculpture. It was to understand the form of the sculpture; the Sculptures subject and representation.

I learned that in terms of the subjects description, I thought it was just basing it on the how the sculpture looks like. What I learned was that we also had to describe the form of how the statue looks like, how it was created, what we can see through our eye. Examples like the Pieta of Michelangelo, we can see a beautiful Mary holding the Jesus Christ in her arms, with her leaning her head. Or like the David, which we can that his head body seems relaxed and leaning on one side. What I learned from the description is also that it has elements that can help understand more of the sculpture, like its space, color, form, balance.

In terms, of representation, it talks about a greater meaning behind the sculpture. Like Christ Redeemer, a representation of him with open arms can show that he has saved everyone from sin and death, just like what he did on the cross.

Ultimately sculpture is not just viewing it but also to understand and to describe it and to be able interpret the sculpture itself. Thus we can understand what the sculpture and the message its conveying.

Aside from knowing about the sculpture's from; its subject and description, I would like to know more about sculpture in terms of using different kinds of medium and it can be used in different ways. And I would like to know more about modern architecture, why people would make such kind like certain objects and shapes that are distorted. I would like to understand the meaning and the reason of how these kinds of sculptures were created.
