EDITED 4/23-
As the weather warms up, exercising outside has been a lot easier and I can say I’ve changed my approach. I take walks on campus most evenings when the weather is nice, and although it’s nothing too crazy, it helps me get my steps in and allows me to be by myself and enjoy the outdoors.

I really enjoy being outside, but during the winter months, it can be hard to go outside and exercise. My older brother recently earned his blue belt in Muay Thai and it seems like something I would enjoy doing. There are lots of lessons online that I can practice in my house without having to go outside when it’s cold.

A strength for this goal would be the fact that it's all online, so I have no excuses!

EDITED 4/23-
I’m happy to say that I’ve been Facetiming my parents every Sunday around 3 pm. What I found that helps is setting a reminder for Saturday so I remember on Sunday to plan my day accordingly.

Because of my parents' age, I don’t go home as often as I used to before the pandemic because I don’t want to expose them to Covid in case I turn out to have it. I find myself missing them a lot and wishing I could spend more time with them like I used to. While part of this may stem from just growing up, I still would like to do a weekly Facetime with my parents just to check in with them and talk.

A challenge or barrier for this goal may be making sure our schedules all lineup, but my parents are retired so... how busy can they really be?

EDITED 4/23-
Going to class has been better, but not perfect. I think next fall will be a lot easier to go to class since it will be the beginning of my last year and I will be in classes directly correlated to my major.

I’ve always struggled with skipping class at one point in each semester and I don’t think I’m completely alone there. My goal is to attend all of my classes this semester and write down what I learned extra by being there. If I choose to skip class, I have to write down “skipped”. The goal is by the end of the semester to have more days filled out with stuff I learned rather than “skipped”.

A challenge or barrier I may face here is obviously succumbing to my old habits of skipping class, but I think it will be important to remember the end goal of getting a good grade in each class so I can graduate faster.

EDITED 4/23 -
This goal hasn't gone great yet, but I have cut down my snacking and haven't been going to get fast food as much as I used to. I'm in the process of moving, so I think once I move into my new place, shopping and eating/preparing meals will be easier.

Being in college, it's hard to have access to healthier meal options on a budget. My goal is to take time to prepare, cook, and eat 3 healthy meals per week and lower my snacking habits. While this can be difficult to measure, I’ll be basing what I deem as “healthy meals” off of Harvard’s “Healthy Eating Plate” as shown here. I think by doing just 3 healthy meals a week, it allows me to really think about what I want to be eating and I won’t get burned out on only “healthy” foods.

I can think of a few challenges with this one but I think just remembering to do it will be a big one, so I think I'll put a calendar on my fridge so I can mark my healthy meal days and remember them. Another thing will be finding healthy (and cheap) foods, but that is why god gave us Aldi.

4/23-
While I have not followed through with my original plan due to coursework and not a lot of time on my hands, I’m planning to do something similar this summer while I’m less busy.

When I was in elementary school, we used to write letters to senior citizens in retirement homes. Now especially, I can imagine that most of the residents in long-term care facilities are feeling lonely and missing their loved ones. I'd like to start writing holiday cards or general well-wishes cards each month. I'd like to pick one assisted living facility in the area, ask how many residents they currently have, and write personalized cards to each resident for that month. For example, I'll probably do Valentine's Day cards soon for February and maybe in March I'll just do some spring-themed cards.

In elementary school I had a lot more free-time, so a challenge of this goal will for sure be finding time to do all of these cards. I can have my girlfriend help me and we're both off work on weekends, so that may be the ideal time.

I think expectations and the division of labor within the household will be fairly straightforward between my partner and me, considering we do not plan on having children anytime soon, possibly not ever. I think since we live in an apartment, things can be split up fairly easily and yard maintenance isn’t a problem yet. After this project is complete, I will continue to check-in with myself and make sure to make time for just myself and my own thoughts. I think something small like keeping a daily journal could be helpful and continue going on my daily walks.
