There is a heavy use of African American slang indicating that it is written from an African American point of view. 
There is a tone of lamenting on current state of humankind.  A cynical attitude about the world is conveyed with a plea to solve the problem using love.

Imagine is a much more hopeful text, it is written in second person and is constantly pleading with the listener to imagine a new world, a perfect united world where there is peace, freedom from greed and hunger, people acting as brothers sharing all the world.  Its tone is hopeful and the listener detects an optimistic attitude from the narrator.
