Maya's perspective In the beginning of the story was "feeling as empty as a desert at midnight". Because on social media all she was seeing was her friends on vacation, while Maya was spending her time helping her family in their bookstore. Later on her best friend Jordan admitted that half of his vacation was spent arguing with his siblings and being carsick. Those moments never made it to social media though. After that incident Maya began to see social media for what it is. A highlight reel but never the full story.
