         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Pony Express created a route from st. Joseph,Missouri to Sacramento, California<br><br>The Pony Express mail service lasted for only 18 months.<br><br>The telegraph replaced the Pony Express as a fast way to messages across the country.<br><br>Buffalo Bill Cody was one of the most famous riders in the Pony Express.<br><br>The Pony Express reminds us that nothing is impossible.<br><br>The Pony Express riders had to be lightweight so the horses could run fast.<br><br>They would deliver the mail in 10 days.          <title>Pony Express M</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Between April 3, 1860, to October 1861 St. Joseph was one of the two end points for the Pony Express.<br><br>This was the headquarters of the Pony Express.<br><br>Station No. 1 The home station in Marysville, a stone barn built by Joseph Cottrell in 1859, was leased to the Pony Express in 1860. The barn is still standing and is now a museum. The riders probably slept at the nearby Barrett Hotel.<br><br>The riders stopping in Marysville probably slept at the nearby Barrett Hotel.<br><br>Hollenberg Pony Express Station, also known as Cottonwood Pony Express Station. Hollenberg traded with emigrants on the trails, operated the westernmost Pony Express station in Kansas, and provided relay services for the Overland Mail.<br><br>Rock Creek station was established along the Oregon-California Trail in 1858 to sell supplies and other services to the emigrants. The station subsequently served as a relay station for the Pony Express, and finally as a stage station for the Overland stage.<br><br>This old post began as a trading post and toll bridge built by Louis Guinard in 1859. It also served as an overnight stage stop, Pony Express mail stop and telegraph office.<br><br><br>At the time of the Pony Express, Camp Floyd provided troops for protection against Indian attacks and served to keep the trail open for the Pony Express, stage lines, and other travelers. The Pony Express Station was a small adobe building that stood several hundred feet northeast of John Carson's Inn (pictured above).<br><br>George Chorpenning established his second mail station at this site in 1858, which was later used by the Pony Express and the Overland Stage.The availability of excellent water made Simpson Springs one of the most prominent stations in the West Desert.<br><br>Indian raids and the interruption of Pony Express mail service spurred the construction of Fort Churchill on the banks of the Carson River. Captain Joseph Stewart and his men began building the fort on July 20, 1860, it is made of adobe buildings on stone foundations. This fort housed the Pony Express station in its headquarters building, which is still standing.<br><br>The building housed the western endpoint of the Pony Express and California's first two telegraph companies. Mail going on to San Fransisco was taken by ferry boat.</div>]]></description>
