Consultation with students regarding topics to be developed on the theme

Following the student-to-student approach, the project students held outreach sessions about the GENDER project for 9th-grade elementary school classes (age 13/15 years old).
The outreach sessions aimed to:

give visibility to the project's theme;
introduce the student leaders of the project;
listen to the students about the topics they wanted to see covered in the "Citizenship Education" classes that would be conducted by the project students;
promote the "Orange the World" event.

The first working session with the student project leaders took place on 12 November 2025. During this session, the programme of activities for the 2025/26 academic year was drawn up.

To implement the sessions, the students prepared the presentation as well as its support. They used digital educational tools such as Canva for the presentation and Google Forms to gather information on the theme of the "Orange the World" event.

Approximately 80 students (plus 5 teachers) attended the project presentation and responded to the survey we conducted.

Subsequently, we analyzed the results and reviewed the sessions.

By combining the project's theme with the event's annual theme, "Orange the World," the central theme would focus on gender inequality and hate speech and discriminatory language on social media.

We concluded that the approach they would take with the classes to address the suggested topics would be in the "Debate" format.

The project's coordinating team, following the same "student-to-student" learning methodology, invited two former students from the school who were finalists in the 1st school debate competition in the Lisbon region and who are currently in their first year of higher education.

Trainning Debate (WSD)

The former students participated in an in-person training session on the debate model using WSD (World School Debate).

The motion was "This House believes that the media should be held accountable for perpetuating gender stereotypes."

Training was provided on the debating technique based on this model, as well as on techniques for adjudicating debates.

Having received the topics suggested by their 9th-grade classmates and with the training provided through debate, it was time to build a learning scenario for implementation. In this co-learning lab, the students, with the help of the coordinators teachers, created a learning scenario to be applied in two 45-minute classes of the "Citizenship Education" subject, taking into account how they would like to facilitate the student-to-student sessions.

To implement the learning scenario, we began by gathering each class's schedule and their availability to host us in their classes. To this end, an email was sent to all class directors where we had already announced the project. Based on the responses received, we scheduled the sessions and indicated the students who would lead them.
