This book is all about a deaf dinosaur, Dina, running away from home because her parents won't let her learn sign language! She meets friends in the forest and they slowly teach her sign language! Dina feels so accepted that people are willing to learn her language. This book is important to me because both of my parents are deaf so it was important for me to know about deaf culture from a young age. I remember my mom and dad signing this book to me while reading, it is one of my core memories. This book is really good to bring awareness to deaf culture!

This book is all about different kinds of animals and if they have mothers or not. I remember reading this book with my mother when I was young. I always remember reminding myself growing up that every animal has a mother and father growing up. This book has impacted me up until today! For example, I decided to become vegan back in August 2021. I remember making that decision, while thinking of this simple book I used to read with my mom about how all animals have mothers too. I have always been an animal mother and I do believe it is because this book being read to me as a young child really set the thought in my head that animals have families like you and I!

This book is about a young student, Vashti, who has a creative block and can't think of what artwork to create! Her art teacher tells her to come up with something, anything. She puts a dot on her paper and signs her name. By the next week, her artwork of the dot is hung up in her teacher's room! Vashti then got inspired and started painting all different color dots on different pieces of paper. She then starting mixing colors, and trying new sizes for her dots! She showcased all of her dots at the school art show. She has an interaction with a boy who claims he can't draw, not even lines. She handed him a piece of paper and says "show me." After he does, she says "please sign it." This book was read to me by my art teacher. It is such an important book because it shows that we can amount to anything, we just have to start first. Whenever I am in a creative block, I always find myself thinking of this book.

It was actually re-illustrated in 2015.  It is all about how we can share kindness everyday! I remember my parents both reading this to me. This book is all about a bucket (this is a metaphor) that sticks with you and can fill up depending on what we say or do and what others say or do to us! This book talks about how we can be bucket fillers by spreading kindness and appreciation! We can also be bucket dippers by being mean, and taking away people's kindness. We want to be bucket fillers! I really like this book because as a child I remember imagining having a bucket at school, at the grocery store, in the doctor's office, etc! It encouraged me to spread appreciation and kindness and I know this would be a really good book to share kindness and what it can do in people's lives to our students!

I read this book in middle school, and then I re-read it in high school before the movie came out. It is such a good book about how looking different does not challenge your potential. I also love this book because it gives you a different perspective/outlook. We really see how words and gestures can really break someone down. This book is about a boy, Auggie, who was born with a facial difference who has to attend a public school. He is so nervous because he knows that he does not look like everyone else. He has a hard time adjusting, as some people are really mean. This book takes us through Auggie's perspective while he learns to accept who he is. It is an amazing read!

This book was published in 2020. When we look throughout history, and even now, marching is a way of standing up for what you believe in. In this country, we have had to stand up together to make a difference. This book is all about people coming together and to march for what we believe in! I think this book is so cool. It shows students that when people come together, a change will be made. Although this does not focus on one specific culture, many different cultures have had to march to receive rights, or just to be treated equally. I think this book is a wonderful gateway to many lessons.

This book showcases different special days and holidays in different cultures! I like this book as it showed me holidays I had never even heard about! Sharing it with students will give them insights on other cultures as well as allow students to share what their culture celebrates! I love that this book has a "Calendar of Special Days" at the end so we can see specific times of the year that are very important for different cultures.

I was originally introduced to the book during my Level 1 Internship. The school I was located at would focus on a specific culture every month. They were focusing on Ethiopian culture one month, and my CT read this book to her class. It is all about a little girl who got embarrassed and is trying to make friends by using one of her family traditions. She makes bunas for her class and it ends up going really well! I really enjoy this book.

I read these books in middle school. It is all about a society where the rich and poor are separated, and there is a lot of corruption. The poor are treated terribly, and the rich are treated too well. Katniss is the main character that we see progress and attempt to change the society she lives in. She experiences a lot of heartbreak and loss. I would recommend these books to middle schoolers, as thats when I read them. The author does an amazing job writing and telling this story.

These books will definitely be in my classroom!

This was actually the first series I read the whole way through in one grade period. I read all three of these books when I was in the 7th grade. My friend and I actually had a mini book club where we would read and report back to each other about the reading every day! It was super fun and allowed me to make a connection through books!

Some of his people did not agree with the agreement he had made, and continued to fight against white expansion. This book is the sequel to the first book "Dolphin Tale" which is actually listed right above. This book also is based on a movie, that is inspired by the true story of Hope (Winter's "co-star"). Hope was rescued by Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2010, which is 5 years after Winter was rescued! This is another sweet story of humans interacting peacefully with aquatic life, which I love to see. When I was young, reading stories like these always warmed my heart!

Alexander’s bad day is a classic among children’s literature. Poor Alexander has one of those days when nothing is going right, and he might as well move. The repetition of the “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day” makes this book a beloved read aloud because young readers learn the phrase and repeat it right alongside the reader. Repetition is always a good thing to look for in books as students feel more involved and engaged when they can repeat phrases with the characters.

The cunning king persuades Jason to accept a dare to bring back the famous Golden Fleece of Colchis, and Jason accepts, unaware that he is being conned into a dangerous journey far from the land he loves. The heroes Heracles, Theseus, Perseus, and Atalanta, all travel with Jason in the ship ARGO as he journeys to strange lands inhabited by strange beings. Throughout the book, there are magical golden apples, comical battles between mice and frogs, beautiful nymphs, powerful sorceresses, a monster that is half-bull and half-man, and shoes that can make the wearer fly.
