This is all set in the World War II where London has been attacked by German spies and can’t escaped. What is happening so far is that Susan went to James school and told the teacher off because the teacher tied James left hand to the back of the chair, cause she thought he was possessed by the devil by writing with his left. At home they are practicing to write their names,letters and numbers. Ada went over to Fred’s place by riding her pony Butter to learn more about the equipment they use on horses, how to use, what equipment goes where. I have really enjoyed getting to know this main character, Anne Shirley, an 11 year old orphan who is adopted by Mirella and Matthew. They are brother and sister who own the property Green Gables on Prince Edward Island near Quebec, Canada. Anne’s story of being a nursemaid to young children is heartwrenching, that someone so young was exploited as a labourer by families is awful. Anne has studied to be a teacher and she has continued to compete with Gilbert. She wins a scholarship to study at University but decides to teach instead at her local school to look after Marilla. They take in twin orphans, Dora and Davey, who are a delight and a challenge. Davey has learnt to be naughty so must learn a whole new way of doing things, although his hero-worship of Anne helps. 
I enjoyed the way this was written and the use of language made it a joy to read. Her father is incredibly violent and abusive to both Alice and her mother, with terrible consequences that reverberate throughout her entire life. Despite her young hardship, life takes some different turns, and Alice experiences life to the full, with its many ups and downs. This was an emotional read, especially in the beginning chapters. You want things to improve for Alice but life is much more complicated than that, and there's certainly many twists and turns in this story. He then finds out that his  mother has breast cancer. He not only has to worry about that but the Yeti, the schools bully, and his first crush “the Goddess”, issues with his best friend Ang.  I really enjoyed reading this book because it is a humorous book and we get to hear everything from Phillips view. It was also heartwarming.
