-Overcoming their fears and biases surrounding art (that usually stem from how they were taught/assessed)

-Understanding how to use artists as inspiration in meaningful ways, rather than simply appropriating material techniques. Also, how to integrate diverse artists in a non-tokenistic way.

-Understanding how process over product factors into assessment practices (i.e., how can each phase of the creative process be implemented into assessment so the end product is not the only piece that is assessed)

-Integrating art across the curriculum in a co-equal manner (i.e., addressing expectations equally in art and other subjects) and using art as UDL

-Building confidence in their own art-making and teaching skills when they have so little time devoted to art courses before heading out into the field.

-Nurturing safe/brave classroom spaces in/through art

Approaching those who teach these classes

I wonder if creating a list of all those teaching these classes might be a way to begin [starting at the conference but also following up after the conference]. I think it might be a balance between what the instructors might want to contribute [as a result of their experience] as well as an open call to those who wish to offer something that may be important for elementary teacher candidates.

I personally think keeping each offering to a shorter article would be preferable [2.g 2500 words]. All education programs are intensive, often packing in more in semester than students have ever experienced before. I am not saying we diminish what they are studying but I do want them exposed to more and to actually read the work.
