1. Why and how do we study literature? Why do we study TTTC? We study literature by looking at the different devices used by the author in order to understand a new perspective on a certain topic. We study TTTC because it compiles many stories from the Vietnam war that give us the perspectives from more than one soldier during the war.


2. How are we affected by literary texts in various ways? How are we impacted by TTTC? Our emotions and our mindsets are affected by literary texts because the experiences told can seem realistic and can make the reader feel as though they are in the story. We are impacted by TTTC because it tells the stories with so much emotion that the reader believes they are true and they symphasize with the soldiers.


3. In what ways is meaning constructed, negotiated, expressed and interpreted in TTTC? Meaning is made in TTTC by the use of literary devices in order to convey the emotions the soldiers felt. The repetition of such meaning helps the reader interpret it throughout the story.


4. How does the structure of style of TTTC affect its meaning? The structure of style of TTTC affects its meaning because if the stories were told in a different way, the reader might not be interested enough to complete the story. So, when he styles it by using different stories from different perspectives leaving the reader wondering if the story, he does this to keep the reader on their toes.

Humans need to read and write stories in order to understand other people. Being able to read other peoples' stories helps us connect to each other as they create emotion to help us sympathize and empathize. This connection is what makes us human and more open to new ideas. By writing stories, we tell the world what we have experienced and about how our mind works by using literary devices to create emotions within our reader. Our stories could be told for generations, we just won't know until we write them.

Langston Hughes' poetry showed us that the African American community of Harlem was tired of being discriminated against for their race and since they couldn't express their anger violently which would make conditions worse for them, they expressed their anger through art. They showed their anger and pain, but also their hope and the little joys they had. Their art encompassed who they were as people, not what others thought of them. Hughes' poetry was just a little piece of what Harlem was, there were so many African Americans who felt the same.

    How does art reflect the community from which it comes? Art reflects who you are as a person. It shows all of your emotions encompassed into one piece. Consider how Morrison's stream-of-consciousness, shifting points of view, and use of analepsis and prolepsis impact the meaning of the novel.  By using stream of consciousness, Morrison is creating meaning of the mentality of her characters so that the audience can try to relate to the story and so they can see where the character is getting their ideas from.

    Time and Space

    1. How important is cultural or historical context to the production and reception of a literary text? Consider the story of Margaret Garner, the Fugitive Slave Act, and other historical and cultural phenomena and how that has impacted the creation and reception of Beloved. By adding the time frame into the book, the reader understands why Sethe and Paul D. act a certain way because of the trauma of slavery.

According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? How does the structure and style of the novel give voice to "the thoughts of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken" (Beloved 199)?  Beloved's style of showing stream of consciousness and through connecting to the mind show the audience what goes through the character's heads as they find their own voices throughout the novel.     How are we affected by Delbo's memoir and her imperative for us to "Try to look. Try to see"? How were you affected by Auschwitz and After?
    As an audience, we are affected by Delbo's memoir as we see the Holocaust's effect on her physical, mental, and emotional health. We look into her use of prose and see the long-lasting effects of this event. I was affected by Auschwitz and After as this prose really drew me in as an audience, making me see the reality of the situation, the raw truth felt by Delbo and the survivors of Auschwitz.
