Basically, all these concepts are connected because they move us from traditional literacy (just reading and writing) to multiliteracy, which is today's goal: understanding grammar in all formats, such as videos, audio, and memes. To teach this, we use multimodal resources (which combine text, images, and sound) so that grammar has a real-world context and isn't just a list of rules. And in this process, multilingual resources are crucial because they allow us to use our native language (L1) as a bridge or support for understanding difficult English concepts. In other words, all of these elements together make grammar a useful tool for communicating in the real and digital world, instead of just something we memorize for an exam.

I think all these concepts are very connected to how we teach grammar in real classrooms. As a teacher, I’ve noticed that students understand grammar much better when we don’t limit ourselves to traditional literacy, but instead use multimodal and multilingual resources—videos, images, gestures, and even their own language. These tools make grammar more meaningful and easier to grasp.

Learning about literacy, multiliteracy, and multimodality definitely helps because it reminds us that students learn in many different ways, and grammar becomes clearer when it’s taught through rich and varied input, not just rules.

The concepts of literacy, multiliteracy, multimodal, and multilingual resources are closely related to the teaching of grammar to EFL students because they all expand the ways in which learners interact with and understand language.

First, literacy today goes beyond reading and writing; it involves the ability to use language effectively in different contexts. When grammar is taught not only as a set of rules but as a tool for communication, students develop functional literacy that connects grammatical forms to real meaning and purpose.

Multiliteracy emphasizes that learners encounter and produce language through diverse modes and media—such as digital texts, visuals, and online communication. By integrating these modes into grammar instruction, teachers can show students how grammar operates across different contexts and text types, making learning more relevant and engaging.

Using multimodal resources—like videos, images, songs, and interactive tasks—supports grammar learning by providing visual and contextual clues. These materials help students notice patterns, understand usage, and apply grammar in authentic situations.

Finally, multilingual resources acknowledge students’ prior linguistic knowledge. Allowing learners to make connections between English and their first language(s) helps develop metalinguistic awareness, which strengthens their understanding of grammar and how languages work.

In conclusion, learning about these concepts definitely helps when teaching grammar. They encourage teachers to move beyond traditional drills and to design lessons that are meaningful, inclusive, and connected to real-life communication. This approach not only improves grammatical accuracy but also enhances students’ confidence and motivation to use English effectively.

Understanding ideas like multiliteracy or the use of multimodal resources allows for more dynamic and engaging lessons for students. Furthermore, by using different forms of communication such as images, sounds, or texts in various languages students can better connect with the content and understand grammar in real-world contexts, not just as rules.

We must also understand that English isn't always everyone's cup of tea, and that's why, as teachers, we have a responsibility to find tools and strategies that allow us to reach them in a meaningful way. Incorporating these approaches helps us spark their interest, make learning more accessible, and show them that English can be both useful and fun.

Now, when we talk about grammar, we are not only referring to the rules that make up a language, but also to an essential tool for constructing meaning with it. With this in mind, it relates to the terms as follows:

Literacy: expands the use of grammar beyond rules and contextualizes it in reality, that is, it shows how it works in real contexts and situations.

Multiliteracies: shows us how grammar can be applied through various resources, not only the traditional ones of writing, repeating, and correcting, but also through other means such as digital media and in different contexts.

Multimodality: combines grammar with other modes of communication; that is, we can learn in the same way through sounds, images, videos, or podcasts.

These concepts provide us with a unique opportunity to improve our knowledge of grammar teaching and look beyond tradition.

Literacy and multiliteracy involve understanding language in different contexts and media. The multimodal approach also incorporates visual and digital resources for exploring grammar, which greatly helps students consider different ways of assimilating knowledge. Furthermore, the use of multilingual resources allows students to connect English with their own language, helping them better understand grammar and use it in real world communication.

In a new language, it is essential to address grammar and learn complete sentences so that the final message can be understood. Multiliteracy refers to the fact that a new language brings with it a different culture and society. Therefore, it is important to emphasize to the student that we live in a world with different languages, customs, and accents, which can be conveyed through images, videos, and audiovisual resources that are part of multimodality. Finally, multilingual resources in a new language are key because they take the foundation of the language already known and begin to build patterns based on it for a second language, which is a great help to students in their learning process.

When students see how grammar works inside real texts stories, or articles, they understand how language builds meaning, not just how to make “correct” sentences.

Multiliteracy: This pushes us to look beyond books and worksheets. Our students use language in so many spaces: emails, social media, videos, blogs. Teaching grammar through these formats helps them use English in the real, digital world they live in.

Multimodal resources: Mixing visuals, sounds, and text makes grammar more engaging and easier to grasp. When we use videos, songs, or infographics, students connect abstract rules with real examples and the class becomes much more dynamic and fun.

Multilingual resources: Students’ first language shouldn’t be seen as a problem but as a bridge. Comparing structures or meanings between English and their mother language helps them notice patterns and feel more confident. It also shows we value their cultural and linguistic background.

Teaching grammar is about helping students make sense of language in authentic, meaningful, and inclusive ways something that really matters in today’s diverse classrooms.

I believe that the concepts of literacy, multiliteracy, multimodality, and multilingual resources are closely related to teaching English grammar because they allow students to learn in different and more meaningful ways. Literacy is not just about reading and writing, but about understanding how we use language in different situations. This makes grammar seem less like rules and more like something useful for communication.

Multiliteracy helps students understand different types of texts, such as videos, social media posts, conversations, or real-life activities, making it easier to learn grammar in contexts they are familiar with. Multimodality includes images, sounds, videos, gestures, and text, which helps explain difficult structures more clearly and visually.

Finally, multilingual resources allow students to use their native language and other languages as support. This helps them compare, better understand differences, and clarify doubts.

In short, these concepts make learning grammar more dynamic, more relevant to real life, and more accessible to all learners.

These ideas fit together because they help grammar feel more connected to real language use instead of just isolated rules. Literacy and multiliteracy show that students make meaning through different kinds of texts, not only written ones. Multimodal tools, like videos, images, or audio, let learners see how grammar works in real situations. Using multilingual resources also helps them link new grammar to what they already know in their first language. When all these elements are combined, grammar teaching becomes clearer, more engaging, and more meaningful for EFL students.

In my opinion, I believe so, since literacy, multiple literacies, and all these multilingual or multimodal resources really help a great deal when it comes to teaching grammar in EFL. In my limited experience during my teaching practicum, I realized that grammar stops seeming like a set of rules to be memorized when students have the opportunity to experience different ways of learning, such as listening to audio, looking at images, comparing authentic examples, or interacting with different types of texts—in other words, experiencing the lessons in different ways. All of this is easier to develop because they not only study it but also experience it, and this is very rewarding, since it's evident that, thanks to these resources, the language becomes meaningful and more engaging for them.

In reality, this is very helpful, as understanding these concepts has led some teachers to modify their teaching methods and integrate them into their lessons. This has prompted them to reflect on how students learn, how they teach, what interests them, and what sparks their curiosity. Therefore, the ideal approach would be to plan activities where grammar isn't the main focus, but rather a natural component of something broader. This would allow for the use of diverse resources to achieve the goal of motivating students and fostering an interest in the subject matter, whatever it may be. I believe this would make classes more authentic and beneficial for students. The truth is, understanding these concepts has transformed the way many teachers currently teach.

These concepts literacy, multiliteracy, multimodal, and multilingual resources are related to the teaching of grammar in EFL because they broaden the ways students access, understand, and use the language. Literacy is no longer limited to reading and writing, but also involves interpreting different forms of communication. Multiliteracy recognizes that students need to work not only with texts, but also with images, sounds, videos, and other types of messages. In the same way, the multimodal approach allows grammar to be taught through visual, auditory, digital, or interactive resources, helping students see how grammar works in real contexts rather than only in isolated exercises. Finally, the use of multilingual resources values students’ prior knowledge and allows them to make connections between their first language and English.

I firmly believe that the concepts of literacy, multiliteracy, multimodality, and multilingual resources are crucial for teaching grammar effectively to students of English as a foreign language.

Literacy is the foundation of all learning. Without a good understanding of grammatical structures, students may have difficulty expressing themselves correctly. However, it is not just about memorizing rules; it is about understanding how those rules apply in real contexts.

Multiliteracies in the digital age are particularly relevant. Students today interact with a variety of formats and platforms. By incorporating different media, such as videos or interactive applications, you can make grammar learning more engaging and relevant. This not only helps maintain their interest, but also allows them to see grammar in action, which facilitates understanding.

Multimodality adds another layer of richness to learning. When students can see and hear examples of grammar in different formats, they can better relate the rules to real-world situations. For example, learning grammar through songs or movies can make structures more memorable and easier to apply.

Finally, the use of multilingual resources is essential in a diverse classroom. Allowing students to make connections between their native language and English not only helps them better understand grammar, but also validates their linguistic identity. This can increase their confidence and motivation to learn. I believe that learning and applying these concepts in grammar teaching not only improves students' understanding but also creates a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment. Ultimately, it is about equipping students with the tools they need to communicate effectively in an increasingly interconnected world.

How do you think these concepts: literacy, multiliteracy, multimodal, and multilingual resources all are related to the teaching of grammar to EFL students?

In my opinion, the area of English grammar has functional factors that are part of it. Based on this point, it could be said that the concepts of literacy, multiliteracy, multimodality, and multilingual resources are closely related to the teaching of grammar because they help to enhance the different areas of English grammar. When we talk about literacy, its purpose is to enable students to read and understand texts, as well as to think critically about literary texts. On the other hand, we have multiliteracy, which aims more at enabling students to understand and design images, graphics, interactive and digital materials, taking into account their context, since today we do not only use text. Multimodality aims to ensure that students, when communicating information, can make correct use of images, videos, and audio to reinforce the text with the information to be conveyed. Multilingual resources are related in a very different way to the previous ones, as this is a strategy used to teach by making use of students' prior knowledge, which will help them to better understand the topics to be covered.

In conclusion, literacy, multiliteracy, multimodality, and multilingual resources are techniques that help strengthen different areas of grammar, in which students must grow and improve.

Do you think learning these concepts helps when teaching grammar?

I would say that it is not only necessary to learn the concepts, but also the strategies and resources that could be implemented in each of them, in order to achieve a positive effect in teaching grammar.

From my own experience as an EFL teacher in training, I feel that literacy, multiliteracy, multimodal, and multilingual resources all influence how my students learn grammar. I have noticed that when grammar is taught only through written rules, many learners struggle to connect the structures to real communication. However, when different modes—images, videos, gestures, and even their own first language—are included, students understand grammar in a more natural and meaningful way.

For me, these concepts complement each other. Literacy provides the foundation, multiliteracy allows students to explore language in diverse contexts, multimodal resources make grammar more visual and engaging, and multilingual resources help students relate new structures to what they already know. Together, they create richer learning experiences and help students see grammar not as something difficult, but as a tool they can actually use to express themselves.

Do you think learning these concepts help when teaching grammar?

Yes, I really think learning these concepts helps when teaching grammar.
Understanding literacy, multiliteracy, multimodal, and multilingual resources gives me more ways to explain grammar in meaningful and engaging ways. Instead of teaching grammar only through written rules, I can connect it to visuals, real contexts, students’ first language, and different types of texts. This makes grammar easier to understand and more useful for real communication.

She believes that literacy, multiliteracy, and multimodal and multilingual resources are all related to teaching grammar to students of English as a foreign language, as they help us learn English in different and more meaningful ways. Literacy allows us to read and write correctly, which is fundamental to understanding grammatical rules. Multiliteracy expands on this by showing us that language can manifest itself in many formats and contexts, not just in books. Multimodal resources such as videos, images, songs, and games facilitate grammar because we can see and hear how English is actually used, and not just memorize rules. Multilingual resources are also useful because we can compare English with Spanish, making grammar clearer and easier to remember. Overall, all these ideas contribute to making grammar learning more interesting, more relevant, and more accessible for EFL students.
