1. VERSE:
"Then they His servants are returned to Allah, their true Lord. Unquestionably, His is the judgement, and He is the swiftest of accountants" (Quran 6:62).
2. CONTEXT: After determining the period of its revelation, it is easier to visualize the background of the Surah. Twelve years had passed since the Holy Prophet had been inviting the people to Islam. The antagonism and persecution by the Quraish had become most savage and brutal, and the majority of the Muslims had to leave their homes and migrate to Habash (Abyssinia).
3. DIVINE: God is Truth. This is a more abstract and less personal conception of the divine.
4. THEME: At first glance, omnipotence. However, given the context it is also comforting and encouraging people in their practice of Islam, despite hardship...
5. SIMILAR: The first, the last, the guide, the light - all of these names indicate a divine that ceases to have boundaries, something outside of time/ conception, perhaps time and truth itself.

(Ms. Relyea)

1. VERSE:
“And ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is Merciful and Affectionate” (Quran 11:90).
2. CONTEXT:
Allah is merciful, and if one strays from the path of morality it is possible for them to regain favor. Later verses describe an example of his mercy extended to persecutors and those of other religions
3. DIVINE:
Allah is forgiving and merciful
4. THEME:
There is a theme of forgiveness and knowledge, such that Allah knows of all mistakes but does not begrudge them as long as correction is attempted
5.

1. Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength. (Quran 51:58)
2. The root of this name R-z-q has to do with support, nourishment and something beneficial (gift). Allah provides for people when they are not able to do so on their own.
3. This shows that Allah is supportive of his people and will continuously assure that they have the strength needed for their lives. It also helps me understand how people maintain strength during times of turmoil.
4. The themes is Allah as a provider/giver of a gift
5. Al-Wahhab (The Bestower), Al-Muhaymin (The Preserver, The Overseeing Protector), Al-Mu‘ezz (The giver of honor)/Al-Mudhell (The giver of dishonor), Al-Mudhell (The giver of life)

John Arsenault

1.
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.

2. The context of this verse and the other verses around it bring praise to Allah as the almighty power that should be prayed to and worshiped.

3. The verse says how there is a god in Islam that is all powerful. You can strengthen your relationship with Allah by praying to him and carrying out his message. For human interaction it just wants you to be kind and respectful.

4. The theme is appreciation because the quarantine acknowledges the greatness of Allah

Context: You must worship, follow and respect him because he created you and everything around you so you must value all of it.
3. Divine: This supports it in the way where he creates everything and gives us life, and gives us the ability to live.
4. Theme: This is very uplifting and supporting to the manor of not losing hope in Allah because he still is giving you everything u need in order to live, even though at sometimes it don’t seem like it.
5. Similar: I think this is very similar to the ideas of Allah/God in the past because they are all supporting the idea that he created everything and gives us all of our abilities that we pertain, and that he is also giving us all the abilities to live by creating them.

1. VERSE:
Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which you used to differ." (22:69)

2. CONTEXT:
The day of Resurrection is unknown, but when it does happen, Allah is the one who determines who will remain on earth, or be passed on to heaven. Because Allah is the one to determine this, Allah is the only one who would know what and who is in Heaven and Earth.

3. DIVINE:
Allah is the sole judge. No one can judge your past or future except Allah. No one is capable of telling you that you are doomed to hell or heaven. Allah is forever merciful and judges based on his mercy.

4. THEME:
Allah is the sole judge and this only reinforces the oneness of Allah in Islam.

5. SIMILAR:
As-Sami’e (All Hearing) and Al-Basir (All Seeing)
Both names are needed for Allah to be a right and just judge, if he knows, sees and hears everything, he will be able to judge correctly and justly.

-Julian

People should believe Allah because he has sent down the Quran.

3. DIVINE:
The Verse shows how Allah has supreme power and can reckon or punish people based on if they believe or forget about him.

4.

1. Chapter 22 Verse 7: “
And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - and that Allah will resurrect those in the graves.”

2. The surrounding verses are all very in line with the theme of resurrection, and it states that Allah is the truth and gives life to the dead. Basically Al Ba’ith is a resurrector.

3. This is surprising to me, as I have never thought that god could actually resurrect someone, unless that person was sacred, such as Jesus. Although I definitely don’t see this as believable, it is very interesting when we are observing the powers and roles/jobs of God.

4. Overall theme is resurrection and rebirth.

5. Al Mu’id is very similar, as that means the Reinstater who Brings Back All.

Verse: 2:256 There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

Context: At Makkah Islam was mainly concerned with the propagation of its fundamental principles and the moral training of its followers. But after the migration of the Holy Prophet to Al-Madinah, where Muslims had come to settle from all over Arabia and where a tiny Islamic State had been set up with the help of the Ansar (local supporters), naturally the Quran had to turn its attention to the social, cultural, economic, political and legal problems as well. This accounts for the difference between the themes of the surahs revealed at Makkah and those at Al-Madinah. Accordingly about half of this Surah deals with those principles and regulations which are essential for the integration and solidarity of a community and for the solution of its problems.- quran.com

Understanding: This understanding of God indicates that he is knowledgeable of not only what is onservable but what is found in the confines of our hearts and minds.

Theme: This name falls under the theme of God's all-knowing power over his creation.

Similar: The Guarantor, The Self Affirming, The Granter of Security, The Affirmer of Truth, The All Aware, The All Hearing, The All Seeing

Christian Rodriguez

And if, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you, [O Muhammad], and asked forgiveness of Allah and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Accepting of repentance and Merciful (Quran 4:64).
2. CONTEXT: Th overall context is explaining how God is all powerful. Historically, there are some specific rules in the Quran about praying and fasting. The Quran also mentions important prophets such as Abraham or Muhammad. Every muslim must attempt to do the best they can and ask for forgiveness if they do something wrong. The Quran describes how muslims should devote their faith in God and to not stray away from Islam like other religions.
3. DIVINE: God is foregiving; however, God is punishing. This all depends on who chooses to follow God and who chooses to reject God.
4. THEME: God is all powerful and has the ability to decide who will rise into the heavens and recieve forgiveness and joy. Muslims can also have an understanding that if they are faithful to God, then they will recieve mercy for the mistakes they make.
5.
