Sympathy- In the context of the poem, what does it mean to feel alone? How is the bird affected by its isolation in the cage? What is the bird denied by being kept in the cage?

To feel alone is to see everyone move past you, and to feel isolated and helpless to your situation. The bird sees the beauty of the world and he cant go out into it and feel the enjoyment of the earth. He is being denied the feeling of freedom, the feeling of carelessness. The bird is not only caged physically, but mentally as well.

Sympathy- How does this relate to the Count of Monte Cristo? (Keep in mind that this bird is still caged after slavery was abolished)

In the Count of Monte Cristo, Dantes had his freedom and had everything he wanted in life. When he was imprisoned, he lost it all, and had no clue what had happened in the outside world. In this way, Dantes is like the bird, watching the beautiful world pass him by, as he has to see in pain, confined, and sulking in his innocence.

The Dangers of Loneliness-How do the ideas presented in this article relate to Dantes?

Dantes was affected by being alone in his dungeon, so alone that he "craved human intimacy". In the article, the author states that being alone can make us "fall apart mentally and even physically". Dantes was alone with himself and began to think and he was at war with himself. When he finally had company from Abbe Faria, he found a little of himself again. When Faria died, he was alone with his thoughts once again and this was the final straw; Dantes set his mind on revenge and spiraled downward, taking a toll on his mental health.

Social Media, Loneliness, and Anxiety in Young People- What is the main claim the author is trying to communicate?

The author is trying to portray that social anxiety is directly liked to the use to social media. "We’ve already seen that use of social media can affect physical health and college or work performance, but just as with any other forms of addiction, fear of not being able to use or access social networking sites causes added distress ". In other words, if your social media is not doing well, we think it portrays our personality and it leads us to think that we as a person are not doing well as well. Social media has become apart of our life that we feel the need to be on it n order to be connected both literally and figuratively.
